Default Clutch and Flywheel advice - D series

Ok guys, I have a tranny leak, or possibly main seal leak...I can deal with it, its real slow, like sat 4 days and was less than a penny sized..but on other cars if it was the main seal things went to **** fast.. That said I'm pricing and sourcing clutches if I were to have to go for the main seal. My setup is simple EH3 - D16Z6 - all the bolt ons, runs like a top 120k miles on it, not sure when the clutch was replaced, if ever, no issues yet, but as I said, main seals can get ugly fast...

The Exedy organic clutch set is 69% better than OEM, handles 223 ftlbs of torque ( my D series can't even spell torque ) So I feel this is an adequate selection and should provide a firm feel, and good performance for daily driving/beating around type thing for the money.


Ok...now I had a 95 Prelude with a JDM H22 swap, ACT XDSS clutch, and a light flywheel and to be honest it sucked, 1st gear was useless because the 5500 rpm vtec engagement and the 7600 or so rev limiter came so fast after the flywheel/clutch setup went in. Obviously this will be less of a problem on a D series, but rotational mass also creates force/torque does it not? Would I be hurting my performance by switching to a lightened flywheel on such a small motor? they average like 7 lbs, and I worry about that wierd lag you get at crusing RPMs and such, and possible loss of torque.

Can you guys enlighten me? Thanks H-T

the exedy clutch is pretty good
as for the flywheel for na id do the 8-9lb and boost id do a 12lb

I just put in a stage 1 exedy w/ 8 lb. flywheel. ITs great. got it from proclutch on ebay. I didn't know their stuff was exedy until i got it.

its cool.
good pressure.
its taken a hell of a beating too.

What was the pressure difference you felt in the clutch pedal after getting the stage one installed? Mine went from somewhat stiff with the stock, to really loose but still works. I need to replace the MC cuz i checked it first thing after i realized it was loose. But i just wanted to know how it came out for you.

Flywheel weight changes the momentum your motor carries when reving up or down, but does not increase or decrease torque. A 7 lb will make the motor more responsive when its not pulling the car (ie, tires spinning in gear, or in neutral). When you have traction, and the motor is under load (pulling the car), acceleration is not affected.

i heard that a ligther flywheel gives you a better low end while a heavier gives you a better top end

you don't make more hp or torque (except for slightly higher whp due to decrease in parasitic loss), your 1/4 et's will not change, flywheel just changes the feel of the motor. It'll feel like it has a little better low end due to that reduction in parasitic loss, but its really not much, and top end is not affected. You could feel a similar change in low end by switching to lighter wheels (same concept of less drivetrane loss). I have a 7 lb, and I won't go back to a heavier one. The only thing I find somewhat annoying about it is that the revs fall too fast between shifts while daily driving.
