clutch advice

Default clutch advice

right now i have a act stage 2 clutch and it is grinding in 3rd and 5th gear at high rpm's. what would be a good alternative for another clutch. i was looking at exedy and clutchmaster. Or should i stay with act? Some opinions would help. thanx


oh by the way i have a 93 coupe with b18c and bolt ons. hope this helps with.

I doubt that it is your clutch grinding both 3rd and 5th. Those are your worn out synchros from your tranny. Sorry to give you the bad news. Synchros don't cost that much but the labor that most shops will charge is horrific. I suggest getting a new tranny.

Also it may be the tranny and the clutch going but more than likely it's the tranny. ACT are good clutches, I like them but I love clutchmasters Stage 3 and up.

thats a problem that i suspected but dismissed. What causes this problem? and is it hard to diy?

One thing to look for that is clutch related: If the clutch pedal adjustment is too low (clutch engages toward the floor) then it is harder on syncros and could contribute to premature wear. A simple adjustment may help your situation and it doesn't cost anything. It's worth a try before taking it apart.

thanks for info. this might save me money then again if the syncros are bad then it might not. i will try the adjustment first (would this solve the engagement point too). If i found out that they are bad then how hard and much is it to fix?

would it be worth it for him to rebuild? or just go with a new tranny?
