should just plug in and work... find the tach signal wire and check it at both ends for continuity, and check the resistance of the wire while reving the engine to see if the impedance changes with the rpms.

i had the same problem..i tried a buddy's 96 ex cluster into my car to see how it'll look and the rpm gauge didnt work, but on his car it was perfect..
i checked all the wiring to my cluster and everything looked good..
i ended up connecting a little tach and puttin it right behind my steering wheel..
well...if all else fails run a wire straight from the blue(signal wire) from the dizzy to the cluster wire where the tach signal wire is and that should work for sure..
if u need more info hit me up..
