Default Clunking noise still there - worse

Well, some of you might remember me posting a thread about a clunking noise I have been experiencing with my car. At first I thought it was axles, it wasnt, then I replaced the tie arm and it wasn't that. Now I'm thinking ball joint, or my upper a-arm bushing.

But experiencing it more and more, its too loud to be a worn bushing, and it seems like its coming from the middle front of the car. Like right behind the engine.

Could it be an engine mount? I have a 00 civic si by the way.

Just trying to get more input on it because I think it might be getting to the point where its damaging something

I dont wanna throw down a bunch of cash for a suspension part thats not gonna work.

Thanks!

could possibly be a bearing in your transmission(throwout, inputshaft bearing)

Mileage and level of abuse on the car from 1 - 10. The stock motor mounts are soft as **** and they rip and break easilly. It would be an easy fix if you could get under there and tell us that's what it is.

abuse is minimal, get on it once a day or every other day...i'd say 4-5.

Mileage = 55k

I have place racing polyurethane mounts - all but the front

...And you didn't consider that maybe the vibrations being redirected by your stronger mounts would greately lessen the life of the one mount you chose not to reinforce? I'd crawl under there right now and see if anything is still functional. Any dimples in the hood yet?

My rear mount has started clunking after a few redlines in first... yeah those motor mounts are piece of ****.. it's most likely the rear motor mount allowing the motor to move excessively

do this, jack the front of your car up, stick your lug wrench into the coils of your springs and lay it down on the top of your upper control arm. now pul downwards on the lug wrench, if the upper balljoint moves, its bad, i had the same problem, baught a new upper control arm from honda (balljoints dont come seperate) and replace that thing, no more clunk for me!

So then its obviously something directly effected by torque... but that doesn't really help to narrow things down much. I would start by inspecting ALL the engine mounts, especially the driver side top mount. This one is commonly torn on EK's. If all the engine mounts check out, then move on to the suspension. Using a rubber mallet, tap the upper ball joint, lower ball joint, tie rod... whatever. Don't beat the **** out things, but you should be able to find fault by lightly tapping on things. If anything is loose or worn, it should show up.

My driver side mount is completely torn(from a clutch job) and i don't have the clunking problem. The shifting in low gears/letting off the gas abruptly makes it sound like the rear torsion mount(against the firewall). The clunking occurs right when you let out the clutch and depress the throttle, correct?.

A lot of EK's have torn mounts. Its just something to look for. Of course its not going to cause the clunkning, its not a torque mount. I was simply listing it as something to search for WHILE inspecting the other mounts. You know?

The engine rocks forward to back as you drive, if your rear mount is broken the engine has more room to rock, the rear mount(if that is the problem) would be an indirect cause of the clunking. BTW, all engine mounts are torque mounts.

yea ej, the clunking happens right as i let off/or get on the gas or clutch. It also sounds like its happening right at the firewall. Where is the rear torsion mount located?

sounds like it could be the intermediate shaft, mine clunks a little also when i hit the gas at low rpms especially

It's right below(about 7inches) your throttle body, where the actual lip of your air intake and throttle body meet. You might need a mirror on a stick to look at it seeing as how it faces left/right.

is it attached to the engine, or transmission, or part of the axle assembly?
