Default Climate control problem

A friend of mine was playing around with his climate control.. he had the car for 3 years and always had it on hot since he doesnt have A/C and always had the windows down in the summer... so the other day he puts it on cold for like 5 minutes and it blew out cold air... when he put it back to hot he was still getting cold air... I was thinking it was the thermostat but I searched it here on H-T and now I think its the door on the firewall... the car heats up fine and doesnt overheat... my question is where is the vent on the firewall that could be stuck not letting the hot air through the vent system? pics would be awesome! Thank you...

There is a coolant hose that goes from under the distributor to the an outlet housing near the firewall. To the right of this outlet on the housing there is a **** on that you should be able to pull up and down. If it's up push it down, if it's down push it up and check the air.
