Clicking when turning?????
Hello all,
I've got a 93 civic Ex sedan. When I turn to the right the front driver side tire starts to click very loudly (just started). I was driving it home today and I couldn't hardly keep it on the road. One moment it would be just fine and the next it would pull really hard to the right for a few seconds, then there would be a cluncking or binding noise and the car would right itself and drive fine - then repeat. The axle boot on that side seems fine and I checked the inner tie rod and it seemed fine as well (replaced it last year). I also lifted the car up and spun the wheels by hand to see if I could feel any binding - nothing. My rack and pinion is leaking and there is some play (side-to-side) in my tires so I am wondering if that could be the problem. I'm not against replacing the rack and pinion but if I am missing something I would really like to know about it.
Any help would really be appreciated, thanks
Dan

Re: Clicking when turning?????
yeah -- turn the wheel to lock in one direction then check the axel for spilts in the boot. then do the other side. it's possible the axel cv joint has failed without a busted boot.

your cv axles are busted, they've worn down to the point that they slip but only when its in a turn, replace the whole thing, buy duralast from auto-zone, they're lifetime warenty

Change your axles and ONLY use OEM Honda. Anything else is longer in length and doesn't have the rubber damper on them. You will get a vibration while accelerating using cheap aftermarket axles.

Re: Clicking when turning?????
hey guys,
thanks for the info, here is an update:
I thought the noise was coming from the driver side, but when I asked my wife she said it was coming from the passenger side - checked the boot and sure enough torn wide open (I did check the driver side earlier but it didn't even occur to me at the time to check the other side). I've got a half-shaft on hold at autozone and I'm pulling the old axle right now. I will let you now how it turns out.
Thanks again for your help.
