Well, the best way to clean them is to remove them from the car. Then:
wetsand with 1500 for 10-15min each
wetsand with 2000 for 15-20min each
Apply meguiars "Plastx"(or something close to that) with a buffer (repeat tis step as needed)

I did this on my OEM del sol headlights before I sold them and they looked minty fresh

I've used the Meguir's Platsx, but without wetsanding. Great results!

What broketuner said. If they aren't that bad, you may be able to get away without wetsanding them. But if they are really cloudy and have a yellow hue to them, then wetsanding is the best way to get them looking new again. I did this on my '96 hatch and the results were great! It does take alot of elbow grease, but it is worth it in the end. Good luck!

agreed, didi it yo my 97 sedan. the headlights were yellowed out and foggy. wetsanded em with progressivly finer grit and finished em off with plastx. did this at the same time i did my black housing. the sading partt will take roughly an hour to get it as close to new as you can.

put multiple coats of the plastx stuff and i would suggest using a buffer as it will go a lot faster.

Hi im cleaning my headlights on my accord 03. it has alot of small bumps and scratches im thinking from alot of rocks that hit it. i purchased plastx but it didnt seem to do much. i havent tried wet sanding it yet. i didnt know which grid. is there anything else i can do to fix it to brand new? also the insides seem to be foggy a little. how do i clean them? remove the whole headlight and remove the bulbs and flush them? im not sure if you can take apart the headlights on the 03.

You will need to wetsand to get all the bumps and imperfections down smooth. I started with 800 grit and went to 1000, 1500, 2000 (make sure it is wetsand paper!). Then I used some Turtle Wax rubbing compound (green can) and finished it off with Plastix from Meguiars. My lights came out good as new and now all I do to maintain them is polish with Plastix every so often. It will work. Don't be afraid to sand your plastic lights. It will look rough when you start, but as you go progressively finer with the paper and other compounds, you will see a huge difference.

Edit: Also when you sand, make sure you go in straight lines side to side and don't swirl it!

I did this WITHOUT wetsanding. I really only westsand if it is 110% necessay.

From this:

To this:

Just use a PC with cutting pad and cutting polish, and slowly work your way to a finer combo. You might need 2-4 applications of the heavy stuff first.

when you cleaned the headlight, was the dirt on the outside or inside?

All dirt / oxidation was on teh outside of the lense. There may be stuff left on the inside, but I didnt touch any of that.
