Default clean_sol93's Build Thread

I bought the car while in highschool to be used as a daily driver. I didn't expect to do much to it as modifications go. Over time, I felt like the car needed a little something to stand apart from the crowd. With all my close friends into the "Tuner" scene, I wanted to make my car look just as good.

This is how I bought the car…

Not so bad for a stock delSol, but like any high school student, I got bored with it so it was time for a change. Over time, being on a high school/college student's budget, I did what I could with what little money I had to start fixing the car up to my liking. I drove it around stock roughly with a few modifications till I started my senior year in high school that's when the changes started. Half way through my senior year the motor deiced to spin a rod bearing after leaving a local car show, so I made a few phone calls and picked up a full JDM B16a swap for $1,500

Now it has turned into this...

The swap...
-JDM B16a
-JDM B16a Transmissionn w/ LSD
-TypeR Intake Manifold
-TypeR Fuel Rail
-Mugen Jasma Header
-96-97 delSol B-Series Shift Linkage

Exterior Modifications Prior To Build-
-TypeR Front Lip
-DIY Front & Rear Tow Hooks
-White Drag DR-31's
-Red NRG 100 Series Lug Nuts

Suspension Modifications Prior To Build-
-3 Point Strut Bar
-Gabriel Ultra Struts
-Ground Control Coilover Sleeves
-Silver Blox Lower Control Arms
-Stock Integra Rear Sway Bar
-Rear Camber Kit

Interior Modifications Prior To Build-
-JDM SiR Gauge Cluster
-Custom Crown Royal Shift Boot
-Skunk2 Counter Weighted Shift ****
-Jensen Headunit
-Pioneer Speakers
-Auto Meter Ultra-Light II Narrow Band A/F Ratio Gauge
-S&W Roll Cage
-Red Zig-Zag Floor Mats
-OEM JDM Gathers Door Tweeters

Engine Modifications Prior To Build-
-JDM B16 w/ JDM B16 Tranny
-Type R Intake Manifold
-Type R Fuel Rail
-Mugen Jasma Header
-Top Street King 2in Catback Exhaust
-Hasport Billet 62a Motor Mounts
-AEM Red Short Ram Intake
-Password JDM Carbon Fiber Spark Plug Cover
-Password JDM Reserve Tank Covers
-DIY Battery Relocation

It was all fun and games till then, now the real build starts. Having my car to my satisfaction the way is sits now is nice and all but its time for another change...

***Summer/Winter 2013 Build***

My delSol had a pretty bad water leak around the windshield, called a few local body shops to get some quotes on getting it fix to stop the leak. All two body shops I went to both declined my business of getting it repaired. So I took matters in own hands, got a hold of my uncle who has been doing auto body his entire life and fixed the problem. Little to no cost, expect buying new trim and accessories.

Pretty happy with the turn out, the paint didn't blend quite like I had hoped, but no biggie. At least had no leaks anymore!! :045:

Friend picked up parts of a turbo setup to eventuality put on his LS, never happened so I picked it up for a pretty fair deal.

-GodSpeed GT35R AR.50 Turbo
-ESMUSA Cast Manifold
-XS Power Intercooler & Charge Pipeing
-eBay BOV
-eBay Wastegate
-Evo10 560cc Injectors
-Resistor Box
-Magnus Intake Manifold

Required Parts Needed to Complete
-Gaskets
-Downpipe
-Domptube
-TurboSmart Manual Boost Controler
-Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
-Oil Feed/Return Lines
-GlowShift 3 Pillar Gauge Pod
-Auto Meter Ultra-Light II Boost Gauge
-Auto Meter Ultra-Light II Oil Pressure Gauge

After I had acquired mostly everything I needed, I slowly started to put it together...

After getting the kit on and tuned. The car made 254whp/182lbft on 10lbs. Started have problems with the car. Being that the new/upgraded manifold didn't have a IACV or IAT sensors, it has a challenge to deal with. With out the IACV, I had to sit in the car with my foot slightly on the gas to keep it running. Once the ECU knew the car was at a running temp I could release my foot off the gas. This became very trouble-sum and a headache. With some other little problems I decided to redo some things. Oh and by the way, its COMPLETELY stock. The block or head was never touched!

Removed the huge Magnus manifold, made some calls, and ended up trading it for a good name brand turbo manifold. Put the stock TypeR manifold back on, and made some other upgrades. In doing these changes I had to relocate somethings, and change some things.

The Turnaround...
-GodSpeed GT35R AR.50 Turbo
-RLD Fab Ramhorn Turbo Manifold
-XS Power Intercooler & Charge Pipeing
-eBay BOV
-TiAL38mm Wastegate (F38)
-Evo10 560cc Injectors
-Resistor Box

After changing everything, I was pretty happy with the upgrades. The car made 269whp/198lbft on 10lbs.

After doing everything so far, this is how she sits now...

As Fall/Winter is approaching I am going to be taking the sol of the road to do a lengthy, expensive build. I do love my car now, just have some things I need to change. I will be sure to keep everyone posted on the build as I go with: parts, pictures and anythings else that goes on with the car. Pretty good friends with a company name Do Work Son located out of Tyler, Texas. I have gotten quite a few parts from them, and have been happy with everything. Amazing deals, great customer service, and just a joy to work with. I highly recommend checking them out if you haven't done so already. Link is in my signature below. Do Work Son!

Sweet sol! Keep up with it! Thank you for making me more motivated because I haven't finish writing story about my '97 del sol so I can post my build thread on here someday! Lol. I don't see much del sol builds out on honda-tech tho.

Oh man, this literally killed me after seeing this rust! I think I might have that too because it's leaking after raining or car wash... Damn.

****UPDATE 9/1/2013****

Eager to say I was rather excited to start this project. Been waiting a while now to do this, but just never took the time. I have had enough and said it was time to start! Removed most of the interior, jacked the car up and started to remove the suspension. Successfully remove all the suspension both front and rear, removed the front hub assembly and axles. Plans for the rest of the weekend include: removing the turbo kit, engine harness, fenders, and whatever else I can get myself dug into.

DON’T BUY CHEAP CAMBER KITS PEOPLE!!

Torn axle boots are never good!

Saturday after work I just did a few little things. Removed the turbo set up, and engine harness, and just little thing here and there.

Cleaned up the front suspension forks and painted them satin black.

No problem! You are lucky that it won't leak inside anymore. I'm envy of that lol. That cheap camber kits scared me but I'm glad that I go after good brand company, not knockoff ****. If that axles are oem, rebuild that because oem are good unless you are baller to spend money on brand new oem axles or high horsepower axles that can handle all of the power lol. Cheap **** isn’t fun. I replaced 3 passengers axles and 2 drivers axles within 2 weeks.

What is your plan to rebuild?

I just made a new thread about my del sol build so help yourself to take a look if you like!

Im going to be getting buddy club camber kits both front and rear. As for the axles, I know a guy at a local junk yard who hooks me up with oem axles. And what you you mean by "What is you plan to rebuild"?

Buddy club should be good. I got skunk2 on mine and so far it's doing their job. You are lucky dude to have hooks up with axles lol. Well I meant to ask you, what are you doing with del sol? Like any plan to strip down or just fix her up?

Just taking this winter and doing everything right. Legit parts and what not. I have a list of what I plan to do in the build. Just trying to make it a little better than it is.

****UPDATE 9/8/2013****

Come home this weekend to find so goodies for the sol!!

Over the weekend I feel I got quite a bit done with the car, well at least I like to think I did anyway. Removed the fenders, cleaned the wheel wells and prepared for paint.

Driver Front Wheel Well

Driver Rear Wheel Well
Before:

After:

Passenger Front Wheel Well

Passenger Rear Wheel Well
Before:

After:

Ran out of paint so I couldn’t finish the front wheel wells, planing to try and get that done next weekend. After doing that I started to mess with the headlight harness and start to un-loom it to prep for the wire tuck.

****UPDATE 9/16/2013****

Come home to find a package waiting for me from Kenny, thanks again dude! Can’t wait to start the project!

Started to remove the interior the prep for my wire tuck and some other things I have planned!

Did a little thinking and found the best spot to run the headlight harness.

Driver Side

Passenger Side

Ran the wires back through the firewall to organize which ones I need to keep in the cabin and which ones went back out for the headlight harness.

Unpinned every wire on the headlight harness and ran it back through the holes I made.

Did the same on the driver side and ran only the needed wires back through.

Working at a local car dealership is giving me a little advantage on saving some money. So I took my front knuckles into work with me on Saturday and had a technician help me press out my ball joints, wheels bearings and the hubs. Took the knuckles home cleaned them up and painted them to prep for the new ball joints, wheels bearings and the hubs to be pressed in.

Everything is going as planed just gonna take me a while being in school and only having the weekends to work on it, hoping to have the wire tuck done in a week or two (hopefully).

Called Honda today after I got out of class for prices on new wheel bearings and ball joints. Got a pretty good deal on them, they matched prices close to Majestic Honda as they could. I got the wheel bearings for $70.37 each compared to $93.82 each and the ball joints for $45.43 each compared to $60.57 each. So I picked everything up for $231.60. Saved close to $80.00. Should have those in a couple days, and good news is that I revived my JDM Lower Fog Lights, I'll have pictures when I get home for you guys! Won't be having a whole lot of time to work on the car this weekend. Every year I volunteer with my church yo help at a local music festival know as Uprise Festival, so that's where I will be all weekend, I might work on it a little late Friday night to prep for the wire tuck on the inside. Still need to remove the heater core, and lower the steering column to make things a little easier for me. Thanks for all your support and help guys! Will be keeping you updated as much as possible.

****UPDATE 9/23/2013****

What a weekend guys, keep coming home to find parts waiting for me, there slowing starting to pile up, but I got a long ways to go. Should be picking up new wheel bearings and ball joints this weekend along with some extended wheel studs I’m getting from a buddy this weekend. Finally after the long wait and years of searching I finally have my JDM Lower Fog Lights! Can’t wait to put them in!

After that excitement, I went out and started back on my wire tuck. Removed the heater box to start the engine harness tuck and what wires I need to extend and which ones I can keep. This weekend I should have the engine harness ready and the tuck complete, not going to get my hopes up though.

My fellow teamsolcal members, I recommend not to do your own wire tuck, this has been a world of hell for me, almost makes me want to pull put my hair. I can say I will have the props of doing my own wire tuck though when I’m done! So this would be my mess of an engine harness… more pics to come when I’m done.
