Re: Civic Troubles? (Whatsupwithrice)
They are cheap and reliable if you consider that a problem.

Re: Civic Troubles? (screech)
No torque

Re: Civic Troubles? (Whatsupwithrice)
A few D16Z6 engines have had head gasket failures around 120,000-130,000 miles.
Synchronizers in the manual transmissions commonly fail with abuse (particularly 3rd gear, 2nd gear, and 5th gear - in that order). All Civics tend to rust heavily in the rear quarter panels around the wheel wells and fuel filler door. Front fenders are also common rust areas. Other than that, just check the normal wear items. Suspension bushings, wheel bearings, brakes, etc. Check under the valve cover to see if the oil was changed regularly. Check to see if timing belt and water pump were replaced every 90,000 miles. |
Re: Civic Troubles? (Targa250R)
yeah I noticed with my 2000 coupe EX, that the door and area in fuel refil is messed up, not rusted bad, but needs a GOOD cleaning or it will soon, Does the rust start in the back like the older civics on 96+ I havent noticed manyproblems with any on the roads..

Re: Civic Troubles? (Whatsupwithrice)
The main input shaft bearing sucks on the Civic trannies! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

Re: Civic Troubles? (Targa250R)
Would i have to worry about the D motors in a 94-95 EX...i believe those come with the SOHC VTEC or DOHC correct? Also...what would be the best way to tell if the synchros are going out? Thanks again
|
Re: Civic Troubles? (Whatsupwithrice)
A SOHC VTEC motor is a D series motor. You can tell the synchros are going out if the car grinds when shifting gears.

Yes, transmission input shaft bearing is also problematic. You can tell if it to be replaced by a noticeable chattering or whirring sound while in neutral with the clutch out at idle. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Whatsupwithrice »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Would i have to worry about the D motors in a 94-95 EX...i believe those come with the SOHC VTEC or DOHC correct? You will know if the synchros are bad because the gears will grind when you shift. The early sign of failure is an unavoidable grind during quick shifts at high engine speeds; worst case scenario, it will grind with almost every shift at almost all engine speeds. |
Re: Civic Troubles? (Targa250R)
Thanks everybody for your help..i'm suprised that people are this helpful! Any good information sites that you would recommend a newbie to check out about these cars? I'm really excited and hope things work out. Also...what is the difference between the B series and the D series? is it just the VTEC? and can you get a DOHC VTEC in a 95 EX, and how can you tell just by looking under the hood?
Thanks again |
Re: Civic Troubles? (Whatsupwithrice)
you cannot get a dohc in a 92-95 unless it was swaped in. not all b series engines have vtec...but all b series engines will be dohc...just look at the valve cover...if its long and wide then its a dohc...if its long and skinny its a sohc...i do not reccomend using the valve cover to diff the engines..you can also chk the block code. its on the lefthand side of the block above the oilpan, right where the tranny meets the block..it will be flat and have numbers on it...like d16 or d15....b16 or b18...b20...ect...

Re: Civic Troubles? (2trix)
So D series are the VTECs correct?

</TD></TR></TABLE> No, only some D-series. B-series will say VTEC on the valve cover when they have VTEC and all B-series are DOHC. |
Re: Civic Troubles? (Whatsupwithrice)
In the HX model count on the tranny going out around 100k or less https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif

Re: Civic Troubles? (tshaw)
So what should i expect in tranny problems on a 95 EX....mileage wise?

It should have no problems unless it was beaten on or not maintained well. Input shaft bearing is the only thing to watch out for, mileage-wise. The transmission in my CRX has 231,600 miles on it and is as good as new, other than needing a new input shaft bearing. |

My ISB is going and I'll just replace the one I'm picking up in a couple of weeks this summer when I get a new clutch and flywheel. What did you do with all of the extra ones? |

'96-00 have stronger steel shift forks than the '92-95 trannies which have aluminum shift forks. Like I said, input shaft bearing failure is a common problem with all high-mileage D-series trannies, regardless of year. |
Re: Civic Troubles? (Whatsupwithrice)
Chicks dig guys in nicers cars... that kinda sucks

Re: Civic Troubles? (slowd16z6)
