am i mistaken in assuming that a '98 dx civic will have taller gearing than a '96 ex? if so, if i were to be able to locate a transmission out of a '96 EX, would it be a straight-across swap into a '98 DX?

would this make any sort of difference in the get-up of the '98 civic?

I could be wrong, but I think the DX has shorter gears than the EX. but yes, both trannys will swap. the shorter gears will give you better acceleration, but the longer ones will giv e you better mpg and a higher top end.

Yes, any time you place a shorter geared transmission into a vehicle, the vehicle WILL be faster in all gears.

Yes, the 1996-2000 Honda Civic EX transmission is the shortest of all the D-Series transmissions. It is a straight plug and play swap.

You are not mistaken. DX transmissions are geared longer than EX transmissions.

yeah the dx tranny has longer gears= slower acceleration
and lower rpm's on the highway= better gas mileage

EX tranny+GM Syncromesh+Short throw shifter= 100% increase in the fun factor while driving.

The ex has the shortest gearing that you can get for the d series. And as long as it is 96-00 it should fit right up.
