Default Civic Tie-rods... any aftermarket/upgraded ones? (searched)

Just wondering if there are any out there... I checked google a little and searched here on the archieves but didn't really come up with anything...

I know they go pretty often... especially with those of us with ES bushings and those crappy tierod covers that don't work... I told my buddy we should leave the stock one's on too... he's like "No... they included them... why not use them?"...

on me for listening...

40k later and my once "tight like a tiger" tie rods are worn and scaring me.

i wasn't sure if you were talking about the steering tie-rod ends or ball joints.
as for ball joints-i don't know of any aftermarket ones.

SRR also makes them
http://srr-racing.com/suspension_steering.htm
i thought about running them when mine went out. But the OE tie rods are just so cheap and easy to replace so i didn't bother. yea those ES boots don't work at all. never run those things. the one tierod i replaced had one it. the ball joint was full of sandy grease when i changed it

sweet thanks for all the links guys...

I figured someone made them...

Has anyone used any of the aftermarket pieces from any of the listed companies... or others?

All the one's linked to, say "race only".... I wonder if that's due to legality or actual design...

IE... I know the comp. engineering LCA's can't really be used on the street cuz they have shperical bearings... (although if you can deal with the rigidity then I don't see why they're not road worthy).

Is there something about sherical bearings that make them wear or break under everyday use... like water damage or something?

I'm probobly going to check out if "Moog" has anything for them... they're usually a little better than stock but still designed for use in everyday cars.

Any info or advice is appreciated....

if anything,i'd think they would be much stronger than stock, and shouldn't pose any reliability problems on the street.just like you said-it's a matter of living with them.
my guess would just be legality reasons.
if anybody has a better reasons please chime in.

i dont understand how a tie rod (metal) would wear down. thats like saying your springs wear down
and after so many miles they need to be replaced. maybe its something internal in your steering rack
and not your tie rods.

Tie rod ends are a metal on metal ball and socket joint like your shoulder... There is a seal around the joint from the factory... as long as it remains sealed and packed with grease they can last a LONG time... however they DO ALWAYS eventually wearout...

With the "race only" one's... it looks to me like it's an exposed spherical joint... which means I BELIEVE (not 100% on this that's why I started the thread), that they are non-greased metal on metal ball joints that are slightly different from normal sealed/greased ones.... This leads me to believe that they would wear out faster and are probobly not designed to be used in inclement weather driving conditions....

I don't know though... That's what I'm trying to find out.

that certainly makes sense.the metal to metal contact is definately going to wear quickly if unlubed, considering the load it will see .does anybody make a similar solid metal joint with some kind of boot to protect it?
