civic si -- oil question

I have a 99 honda civic si and my oil is burning really fast.
I have to frequently put new oil in just to keep it at full level.
I'm using a high milage valveline oil for motors that are
over 75,000 miles.

Can anyone tell me if theres anything wrong with my engine
since the oil is buring fast. Should I change to a different oil?
for example, a full synthetic valveline oil?

any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks.

pull the spark plugs.. what color do you see?? is it fuel or oil???

Check valve cover seals

check oil pan seal and drain plug washer

check for leaking around the headgasket

worst case, do a compression test and leakdown test and that will tell u if any rings are bad and thats a bitch job replacing

first things first. stay the fucking hell away from valvoline. second, look for leaks, third, have someone follow you to see if youre putting out alot of smoke at high rpm. use redline, mobil 1 or royal purple. i prefer royal purple. try 10w30 and see how that works.

What oil should i go with then? Since I heard valveline is a good oil.

As long as he's changing the oil every 3000 or so that shouldn't really matter.

Takes 10k on the same oil before it starts getting low... don't ask why I know that.

Stay with the conventional oil. If you use the above said you will burn at a faster rate. Your plugs WILL tell you if you are indeed burning it, check out this diagram and tell us what u see http://www.clubsi.com/spark_plug_tech.shtml

Re: civic si -- oil question (souljah_jon)

My spark plugs are normal, they have that light greyish look.
I'm changing gears between 3.5-4 rpm's. I don't really hit the
vtec that often.
I bought the car used so I dont know how the previous owners
drove the car and how often they changed the oil. but the oil is
burning quite quick. Ive used about 3 qts of oil since Ive first
changed the cars oil.
Does it matter if i use highmilage oil? im using this type of oil right
now. high milage valveline. 5w30.

thanks.

high mileage oils fine just get a compression/leak down test https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
