civic revs automaticly and only runs with clutch pressed in
1997 Honda civic d16y8, pulled engine, put in a few gaskets, now when it starts it starts revving up and non stopping, no engine codes and the throttle cable appears to be fine

car only runs with clutch pressed in
1997 Honda civic ex d16y8, just pulled engine and put back in, now the car only runs with clutch pressed in. it runs at 3000rpm, but goes up to 3000 and drops down to 1000 continuously

So you still haven't fixed the vacuum leak from your last thread, you have failed to tell us exactly why you felt the need to pull your motor, and you won't give us all relevant information, but you expect us to magically give you an answer.
Think about that for a second. Do you see where that might not work out in your favor?
You need to tell us if your car stalls, or just shuts off. You need to make sure the transmission is actually in neutral. You need to tell us what you did with your motor out. Finally, you still need to fix your ******* vacuum leak.

the vacume leak is fixed, I had several gaskets go out over a year so I pulled, cleaned and replaced. I thought Ive been replying to this thread but it keeps not showing up. It will start with the clutch pressed in with the gear shifter in neutral, but in first it stalls. while its running the car varies in rpm from 1000 to 3000. is that enough?

as the first responder stated, I'd look for a vacuum leak Vacuum leak. The jumping RPMS could also be an iac issue.

The varying RPM tells us you still have a vacuum leak somewhere. Smoke tells us you screwed something up when you started replacing random gaskets. You need to be more specific. Since you don't seem capable of that, here's a short list of questions. Answer all of them, fully.
With the car in neutral, will it continue to run with your foot off the clutch?
Have you verified your mechanical and ignition timing?
Is the CEL on?
Does the CEL work?
Exactly what gaskets did you replace? List ALL of them.
