civic randomly not wanting to accelerate
Hey guys i have a problem my car will start perfect but when idle and i rev it a bit it gives off alot of smoke and i smell burned rubber from the engine. Tried driving it and it starts off good but when its shifting gears all of a sudden the engine starts giving small jolts like its not wanting to go a couple of times real fast. Then the car just will not want to move the engine revs when i push the gas but the car will not move. All the time this is happening im seeing white smoke from my exhaust. Car is not heating up not losing coolant i turn the car off and on a couple of times then it starts to drive again. Im lost would appreciate some help thanks

Re: civic randomly not wanting to accelerate
Pull your plugs and see if any are unusually clean, look down into the cylinder and see if the top of any pistons look shiny clean also... does your oil look milky, or creamy? If any of the above chances are you have a blown HG...
Is the "white" smoke actually white or gray, bluish black...? Do you smell unburned fuel?

Stick or auto? If stick, what happens when you apply the brake, in first , hold brake and start releasing the clutch? Does it stall out or slip?

my car is automatic and the engine oil is good not milky dont smell fuel just smell burning rubber and after a while my engine starts to make a whining noise in tune with the noise of the engine running.

Ok, sometimes you can get slight HG leaks directly into the combustion chamber, but not into the oil passages. If everything checks out, we can start looking at other things...

ok all spark plugs looked good no oil on them inside the the cylinders look dirty this is the whining noise it sounds like its coming from the transmission

Re: civic randomly not wanting to accelerate
whenever im switching through park reverse and neutral the noise changes higher in pitch and goes away in drive. I Think something serious finally happened to my car was hoping to reach 200k.

Re: civic randomly not wanting to accelerate
Yes a compression test can benefit you greatly. Anytime you have an issue just do a compression test so you can rule out a bad engine or HG, then move on from there. A Compression test takes no longer than 15 mins by yourself. You'll save a little time with a friend helping.

Re: civic randomly not wanting to accelerate
The car started acting like this when i was driving and all of a sudden the engine revved up to 4000 rpm by itself real fast for like 2 seconds. The the check engine light came on and the car was rolling i would tap on the gas pedal to see if it would go and the car would not accelerate. Now it will drive fine for like 15-20 seconds and then erratically start dropping rpms then it wont accelerate again. If i shut it off and wait a couple of seconds and turn it on to accelerate it works fine again.

As a side note, you may have to pull the tranny fluid and see if metal and shaving come out or are stuck to the magnet on the plug, you may have a bearing going south...
