Civic Offset
All,
I am looking at a wheel with the following specs:
Size: 16X8, 4X100 Offset +10 Hub bore:67.1
These are local and while some will say put them on I can not. I need to know if they will fit with tires and these do not have any mounted on them. They are Rota Grid rims. If they will fit, what size tire would I need to run? How would the ride be? I will be on Progress coilovers.
I apologize if this should go in another thread like suspension or Rims and tires but this is specific to the EK.
EDIT: If not I assume go with a 40...

Re: Civic Offset
You can put them on the car, but they will look goofy as hell.
215-45-16 or something like that. Don't stretch the tires!!! It's unsafe, and looks horrible.
I would keep on looking for other wheels.

Re: Civic Offset
Im guessing there a set of Rota Grid's. Im looking at the same wheels for my car but i have wide flares and stuff dont so the offset fits. Other wise they stick out of the arches. Tyres id go 215/40/16.

Re: Civic Offset
Indeed, 16x8 is going to require that you run larger then OE diameter tires or stretch the tire so that it is used improperly.
Get a 16x7 wheel and run a proper tire. Or space it out to the offset you like, jut get extended wheel studs and spacers. That will be a lot cheaper than the expense you might incur when your sidewalls burst while you're driving around town and you wreck into something.

You can't argue with a fact.

Re: Civic Offset
The reason why I asked about running a 16x8 with a +10 or +20 offset is I love how the wheels look deep unlike running them at a stock +40. I also do not want it to look like a VWub either, I have one of those :-) So would a 16x8 and a +20 be ok? And with this tire size 215/40/16? Now I thought that was for a 16x7 not a 16x8 rim? So it would be stretched correct?

+20 is still quite low.

Blah not what I was hoping for or the look but it is FWD. Thanks everyone for the help and anyone else who stumbles across this thread. 16x7 with a +40 offset it is

Re: Civic Offset
You can always use spacers to get it a little more flush. There's nothing wrong that.
You have 2 choices for though. Extended studs then spacers, or get ones with studs already built in.

Re: Civic Offset
96-00 Civic sizes*:
205/45-16 is ok up to 7.5"
215/45-16 is ok up to 8" wide
225/40-16 is ok up to 9" wide (very uncommon size)
92-95 Civic sizes:
215/40-16 is ok up to 8.5" wide (less common size)
205/40-16 (some brands, check manufacturer specifications) is ok up to 8"
*I think some 96 Civics should use the smaller diameter. Go with the size closest to the stock diameter for your car.

TunerN00b,
For the future, a 205 and the 215 series tire will still fit a 16x7 rim correct, which is the typical size rim people purchase? I would think the 225 would be too large and a very small sidewall for a rim like that.

Re: Civic Offset
You can't just say "205 and 215" without concern for the aspect ratio. What size wheels a tire size is approved for depends on more than just the section width.
225/40-16 has the same amount of sidewall as a 205/45-16 (both of them have 3.6" of sidewall). How is that "too small"?

Re: Civic Offset
I wrote "up to" because I was only listing the maximum wheel widths approved for those size of tires. Each size also a minimum wheel width they can be used on, but both a 205/45-16 and a 215/45-16 can be safely used on a 16x7 (which is why that's a good width, you have more tire choices that way).

That is where I always get lost but I remember with 16" 205 and 215 are fine as long as it is a 45-16.
