Default Civic occasionally won't start after driving

1990 Civic with a 1.5L. After drving and turning off sometime it will turn over but not start. After waiting about 30 minutes it will fire. The car has had a new timing belt about 10k miles ago.

Wife's car so I am never there when it happens so I can't tell if there is spark at the plugs or gas to the injectors.

Are there any common problems like this with these cars that I could use as a starting point?

The connections in the main relay is a very common problem. and causes exactly what you described.

fix it for free... http://www.marklamond.co.uk/te...y.htm

or if you can't solder, replace it.

take the driver side dash plastic off. its like 3 screws and then its on your right hand side. its a box with a lot of wires coming in and out of it. sounds like thats your problem

Yeah, common problem for the early Civics.

My '92 Si had the same symptom. Started fine in the morning. After driving for a while, it turned but didn't fire.

Got rid of it couple of years ago. Not because of the relay though.

in a 90 civic, its on the driver's side, above the fuse box, mounted to the outer wall.

click the link in my last post and it will show you a pic of it.

also, wrong forum, this is the 92-00 civic forum.
