Civic Non-Powersteering noise?
I recently bought a 97 Civic DX hatchback, at first i was stunned by how stiff the non powersteering was on this car. I had driven non powersteering cars before, but none felt as stiff as mine. I also find it rather strange that when i turn the wheel and give it gas i hear a whirling sound coming from the bay. It doesn't happen if im not on the gas pedal. Its rather noisy and can be heard from outside the car. Right now i am clueless as to what it can be. The car also makes a slight vibration when i give it gas and go around 1500 RPM. This slight vibration is felt on the pedal as well as on the shifter.
Hope you guys can help.

i doubt your problems are related to not having power steering. its more likely a bad mount, or a wheel bearing or something. how hard is it too steer exactly? i know its a big difference in steering with 17 inch wheels than 14's. i is on my car. but i used to have a chevelle with no power steering so maybe im just used to it.
bump for a better answer than i can come up with.

Yea i mean the fact that steering will be heavier is obvious, as i mentioned i had driven other non-ps Civics. The thing is that even while the vehicle is moving the steering remains quite hard to turn. Lets say me making a right turn at around 10mph, it feels as if i was parked. Not to mention if i give it gas i get that whirling sound. I had a buddy mention the bearing issue, but im hoping its not that.

Well I removed my wheels today to take a look and found leaks coming from my axles on both sides. Might just be my axles. Still seems strange.
