civic intake manifold question

Are there high benefits from getting an intake manifold? I have a 94 civic ex. I have an intake, headers, and a fulll exhaust, will an intake manifold give me a noticeable increase in hp? Please help me with your input. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: civic intake manifold question (speedy94ex)

I think you would notice some decent gains with a port matched TB on an eldebrock performer IM, with port matched runners and a Port and polished head with a 3 angle valve job.

Next big thing to do would be cam and valve springs and a computer. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

ummm...so are you saying you don't have one? if you don't, i would suggest it, it's the new thing in having a running car. but at least you have an intake and a full exhaust system https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

you will notice some good gains if you get your car tuned afterward. but for that, you will need a vtec controller, cam gear, fuel pressure regulator.

Boy that was helpful...........

An intake manifold won't really make any difference for you at this point in time. I would wait till you got a cam first and leave the intake last as an upgrade. Even then it will only be worth a couple hp over your stock intake.

Re: civic intake manifold question (speedy94ex)

won't make that' much of a diff. unless your port you intake ports and get a tb. but if you do get it it would be like 10to 15 whp, not that much, and I wouldnt do it if your going to stay all motor, it's a waste of time, just bore out your stock one, just as good.

get a y8 manifold. bigger runners and like everyone else said, you should port match it to a b series throttle body. you'll get a quicker throttle response and noticeable torque but like everyone else said, you should get a cam and cam gear and get it tuned for best results https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

why does everything have to be ported and polished? did you just read that in a honda tuning magazine and decide to act like you know what your talking about?

Man, getting a new IM WONT give you shit, like someone say..."OKAY" maybe 2 HP....better flow....fatter runners....(y8) but like everyone else said...it's won't even help that much....get a new cam and adj. cam gear. =o) then the IM.....

Re: (murmur9)

why does everyone always say "bore it out and port match it" the fact is bigger is not always better. it's velocity, not volume that matters.
think of it like this, exaggerated for the point fyi, a big ass enclosed water slide tube. if you blow through that, someone on the other end won't be able to feel it, why? cause it's too damn big. now take a straw and blow through it, someone can feel that, cause the air is forced into a smaller space and is therefore flowing with more force and has a greater speed.
there is a median that you need. something that allows the maximum amount of air to flow, that your induction system can suck in without losing it's, or much of it's, initial velocity (mechanical limit). this not only applies to your throttle body, but to the intake manifold.
And to whoever said only get one if you go all motor?wtf?(edit nevermind that, i read the opposite of what they meant http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif )
that would be where you would want exactly what i said above, where you can't afford to lose velocity and you need something exactly for your set up and where you need tuning.
On an FI system, a more restrictive intake mani and t-body combo won't be as noticeable cause your forcing lots of extra air into your engine. now if you open it up a little bit, you'll have better flow and more power on boost. but once again too big, you lose velocity and more area to pressurize.

and i know my first reply was not but this is a stupid ass thread and if he's thinking about getting an AFTERMARKET intake mani , he should know some of this. or at least enough to specify a brand and not just say "should i get a intake manifold" the obvious answer is, fuck yes you should if you don't https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

this guy is fucking raw....I agree with his WHOLE post. Fuck your Port and polish....HAHAHA na, it is good when you have a great motor and you get it ported to help...not just to say you have a ported this..blah that... GREAT example bro...very good lesson for a noob

Re: civic intake manifold question (speedy94ex)

To give you a straight answer without all the bull, for the most part everyone else is right. My skunk2 im gave 6 horse max. which is ok, but I plan on going turbo withing the next year, so I will most probably get a new im with the turbo. Just something to think about for the future. Also, <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by CivicVX94 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">why does everyone always say "bore it out and port match it" the fact is bigger is not always better. it's velocity, not volume that matters.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

If you plan on boosting big, you will need the volume as well. There are many things to consider before getting a new im. Like I said, if you want to save some money, think about the future (eg turbo kit etc.) Good luck!
