CIVIC IDLE SURGE WITH AC ON HELP PLEASE DRIVING ME CRAZY
The vehicle is a 1996 Civic EX VTEC 5spd http://img545.imageshack.us/slidesho...d=noplate2.jpg I just performed the following upgrades. Coolant System: 2 core alum radiator with slim fan and silicone hoses, completely flushed system and yes i BLEED the system afterwards. also t-stat changed. Exhaust: Header assy with downpipe, straight thru performance converter, full catback system. (Original o2 sensors installed) Fuel System: adjustable fuel pressure regulator assy. (set at 55psi) Fuel filter Ignition System: NGK indrium plugs, performance 10mm wires, performance cap and rotor Cold air induction. (filter cone mounted behind lower grill front bumper) Recharged AC system (system blew cool before charge after charge was freezin but has returned to cool found dye leak between condenser and ac line) The CEL is on pulled codes (and as expected) i have codes 65 Secondary oxygen sensor heater wire (black wires) 67 Cat Converter (no biggie o2 simulator has been ordered) The issue that has me stumped ... With the A/C off it runs perfect... with the AC on idle drops and idles erratic between 200 to 800rpm when i drive it with AC on at a constant normal speed it feels as if the engine is shutting off- on for a sec ya know no power for a split sec and back on. (best i can describe):thud:: I have been searching everywhere for an answer.. Note: Already bleed coolant system again Checked for vacume leaks Checked IAC its working correctly Checked secondary Idle control its working correctly Any new input would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: CIVIC IDLE SURGE WITH AC ON HELP PLEASE DRIVING ME CRAZY
When the A/C is on and you are having the idle problem, is the compressor clutch abnormally engaging and disengaging rapidly?

Re: CIVIC IDLE SURGE WITH AC ON HELP PLEASE DRIVING ME CRAZY
Yes it appears to be... lol
I think i understand now .. Refrigerant low so the compressor clutch is cycling on/off causing strain each time which is causing the idle issue... Thats what your thinking too? Im waiting for a new condenser and receiver drier to arrive to fix the leak then will see if infact it was due to low freon. |
Re: CIVIC IDLE SURGE WITH AC ON HELP PLEASE DRIVING ME CRAZY
Yes, that's what I was thinking. The borderline low refrigerant is triggering the pressure switch constantly to turn the system on and off.

Installed new ac condenser, receivier drier , o2 sensor simulator and new o2 sensor..
BLOWS ICE COLD... :) NO MORE IDLE SURGE... :) NO MORE CEL... :) Thanks for all the info... http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7770/gedc0055u.jpg |
