Default Civic HX CEL Help!

I just bought myself a Civic HX '97 w/ Vtec-e (D16Y5). Drove it around a few times on the highway and in town. The shift-up indicator was working fine until yesterday. Now with the check engine light on, the shift-up indicator does not come on anymore. Does anyone know how or where to start to fix this problem? I'm thinking it could be a loose wire somewhere; sometimes when I start the car, the CEL is gone and the indicator works for a few miles.

yup like he said find out what throwing your cel code. you can probably go to your local auto zone and they lend those out for free with a drivers license or you will have to put a deposit. ofcourse youll get it back...
