Civic Hatch 94 - With GSR Motor (Speed Sensor Issues)
Hi,
1994 GSR motor/trans has issue where my speedometer won't work.
I read some other posts and decided to buy a speed sensor - I swapped it out - nothing changed - speedo still doesn't move at all.
I noticed that the speed sensor goes into another piece which is held onto the transmission with 1 10mm bolt (the VSS itself is held on with 2 10mm bolts).
Does anybody know if this other piece is sometimes the culprit (the one actually residing inside the tranny that has the gear on it)??

yes - the plastic gear that sits inside the trans that the "other" piece has can fall off/disappear.
pull and check.

Re: Civic Hatch 94 - With GSR Motor (Speed Sensor Issues)
Thank you everyone for your posts / help - greatly appreciated!
I swapped out another cluster and it didn't change anything.
The "other piece with the gear" that the "speed sensor" goes into actually looked like it might be stripped...I wasn't sure so just swapped out the sensor anyways. There is a 1/2" or so thin metal shaft piece that connects the speed sensor to the "other piece" and where it connects to the other piece (female part) looked stripped. I called local JY and they want $65 for entire thing (2 pieces like what is pictured in 1st post). The JY asked "is your check engine light on?" - so I figure that is one tell-tale sign VS. the cluster being the culprit... I'll keep everyone updated till I have it fixed. Thanks again.

Re: Civic Hatch 94 - With GSR Motor (Speed Sensor Issues)
Just an update:
The plug was corroded as stated above. Fixed that and replaced sensor and it fixed the problem for the most part. On random occasion the speedo will not work usually in the morning when its cold. Interesting to note when it stops working I hit the trip reset **** on the cluster and the speedo sometimes starts to work...so maybe also bad cluster but works 99% of time so its good enough for me. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
