Re: civic hatch
you can:
A. buy a shell, then build a motor, etc
B. buy a stockish car and modify it accordingly
C. buy a car thats already done
what year hatch you lookin for, what are your project plans; ie. gas getter, clean but still slow car, fast car, race car.
most important, what is your budget.
you seem to have little knowledge of the honda world, so best bet is buy a car thats already done and has what you're looking for.
you can't ask someone what they think is cool or looks good/is good.
you'll get a million opinions.
be way more specific.

Re: civic hatch
listen to these other guys and do your research! if your "new to this whole thing" you need to start researching all of the different motors and what year/model hatch you want. One mans "fast" is another mans SLOW. figure out how much power you want to make and what part combinations are capable of achieving that. Then go over you're budget and decide what's right for you.

Re: civic hatch
The first thing your gonna need is Money and can add up to alot of it .If I had to do it over again I can tell you for certain that it would have been alot cheaper to buy a car already swapped and then do the rest of the mods myself .You can often find nice cars with tons of money already put in them that guys just dont have the funds or the time to keep anymore due to various reasons ie: new baby , dui , job loss ,ect.. and other reasons. So look around there are alot of nice rides out there that can be had cheap then you can mod it up from there.Thats just my opinion though . I will say seeing the changes my car has gone through has been neat , fun, interesting and expensive to say the least.I guess its all in how deep your pockets are and how much patience you have as well as mechanical abilities. Have fun search it out .Dont be afriad to ask everybody started somewhere .

^^^
Exactly. If i can do it all over again i would buy an already swapped hatch.
I paid $2700 for my 2000 1.5 years ago. Ive put in more than $4000 in it and i COULD NOT find a buyer to pay me 4g's for it. Its not abused not raced just spirited driving once in a while.
Had i found a swapped hatch with all the upgrades mine has i would ****** in a heartbeat. I would even pay 5g's.
Theres always guys like me with kids , mortgage etc. That have to cut their losses

If you don't have two grand, you won't be able to do much. A decent running Honda is hard to find under $2k that isn't a complete rust bucket. You can maybe find a decent shell for $500-1k and maybe pull off a B swap for under $1k if you get a non-vtec or rebuild a VTEC and know where to get stuff cheap and sell old parts to get a little money back.
If I were to do it again, I'd have waited and found a completely unmolested car and basically started from where I am right now...a shell on 4 jack stands. It's more expensive to do it all from scratch, but it would be fewer headaches and actually probably cheaper in the long run.

Re: civic hatch
OP how old are you? You seem young so the best thing to do is just stack up moneis until you can afford something you like. Also the older you get the more you will appreciate the car and be less likely to mess it up.

Re: civic hatch
wish I could afford a car when I was 17 heck I was working at Publix at min which was $4.25/hr trying to pay for college.
Save your money till you get enough and get something you will appreciate later. If your family gives you a hand me down, immediately jack it cause that is gold then later you can sell that POS and get parts for your own ride.
