Civic forum re-organizations?
There is a discussion in Mods Corner about possibly combining this 5th/6th generation Civic forum (92-00 Civic/Del Sol) with the 4th (EF/88-91) and 7th generation (01-05) Civic forums.
The purpose of this thread is to allow you an opportunity to voice your opinion. Also please choose one or more options in the poll, or alternatively post your own ideas about possible forum reorganizations. Thanks, Ron |

how is this beneficial? Seem to me this would clutter everything...

Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
isnt that why we call it generation specific?
|
Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
If you combine them just create subforums for the specific model tech talk.
Otherwise the combination of all models will just make a cluster of newbies asking why their civic won't start and you will purge out any senior posters or users because they are sick of seeing "what engine swap" threads |
Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
That's a HORRIBLE idea. Who even brought this up?
|
Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
I agree with Chrysler kid

Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
Horrible idea the 01 up civics have different engines and completely different suspension design

Is someone off their rocker? Leave it.

Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
2 votes for combining 4th gen and 5th/6th gen forums. Are these 2 votes from 4th gen forum regulars? Just curious.
|
Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
I would not combine any of them. 88-91 has a lot of specific things to it, even though some things can be upgraded/retrofitted. 92-00 and 01-05 both have things that work for them and not others as well.

Considering that there are at least 17 of us who think this is a bad shit stupid idea...does it really matter?

Parts-wise, most parts are interchangeable between the two. Grenade a motor? No big deal, swapping in another D from a 92-00 is a simple plug-and-play procedure. Want to replace a D17 with a D16? Yeah...have fun with that. Want to upgrade your carb'd 88 with a Z6? There's a little more to it than "drop it in, pop in a P28, and go for it". Diagnostically, 5/6G's are easy. (Nearly) all of them, you can just jumper the 2 pin connector, and boom, blink codes. 01-05, IIRC they went and removed the 2 pin connector. You can still jumper two pins in the OBD connector, but it's still a different procedure than the 92-00. I don't even know if the 4G uses a 2 pin connector, or if there's some other wonky stuff you have to do. In short, there are enough large differences between the 4G, 5/6G, and 7G that intermingling them into the same forum would turn into a clusterfuck, and that clusterfuck would chase off some of the helpful, long-term members that keep things going and help the bluenamers do what they have to do. I really want to know, though, why was this even brought up? Obviously it caught enough traction in the moderator's corner if you're bringing it up here, but why? I can't think of a single redeeming point to mixing the forums, aside from increasing traffic in the separate subforums, but even if you do mix them, it will only be false traffic. Those of us who are here for 5/6G will ignore threads that are clearly 4/7G, and it's a safe bet that the 4G and 7G people will ignore threads that are outside of their interests as well. So now you have too much stuff mixed in, and people who make threads because they have issues might see those threads bumped off the front page, going unanswered. |
Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
If anything, H-T needs to split the 5G, 6G & Del Sol apart into their own separate forums.

@NotARacist -- Thanks for the input. The goal is certainly both to increase new membership and to keep our current strong tech base - not an easy task

Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
GK can't even hit an apex, why should we trust him to hit a forum-apex? :P
I kid, but is this unnamed senior moderator even active in this, or any of the aforementioned subforums? Can we hear their reasoning behind this, either from them (preferable, so we can have a conversation about it), or at least second hand, so we can understand where this is coming from? Right now, it just seems like everyone who has posted has said, effectively, "hell no", and I'd like to hear why someone thought this would be directly beneficial, and not from a devil's advocate. |

Your voices are being heard. |
Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
I can respect that, I'm just worried that we're yelling at a brick wall. Commingling the already mixed in 92-00 Civic/Del Sol group with any other group would be detrimental to us, and being the largest, busiest tech subforum, I would like to think that our needs and wants outweigh those of the other subs. We already have 3 different cars to keep straight (four, if you count the EL). Adding even more is just going to turn this place into even more of a zoo than it already is.
If the moderation team wants to make changes for the betterment of the forums as a whole, force new members to read and acknowledge the rules and FAQ stickies in a subforum before they are allowed to post in it. Have threads get auto-locked after a predetermined amount of time, to prevent necrobumps. Add a feature to the new thread creation screen that looks for similar threads before allowing a user to post. All of these things would be beneficial to new members, by pointing them towards information before they post, and beneficial to the old, crusty members by cutting down on the dumb shit we see all too frequently. I've seen before and afters of these implementations on multiple forums. It has always been beneficial. |
Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
I'm just going to guess at why someone would want to (its a shot in the dark) but this forum 92-00 gets a butt load of traffic because lets face it the market for this vehicle years is the most common "tuner" historically and present day. At the same time the 88-91 gets less traffic although its a common tuner car as well but not as popular and with its age is becoming harder to find in good condition. The aftermarket while decent isn't as good as the 92-00. The 7th gen cars are by far the least popular and that forum barely gets hits from users. I'm assuming the idea is to combine them to expose more people to these less populated forums and somehow to flow more people to these forums to increase traffic for ad revenue somehow?
Honestly by combining them unless I'm missing something will push threads way down to page 2 very quickly burying them because RARELY do I even go to page 2, if its not on page 1 I never see it. I feel the separation right now is logical. Something I've never understood was the need for the "Tech/Misc Forum" it seem most threads could end up in model specific forums or hybrid forums. |

There's a general A/C thread that I think is a good fit in that forum, but I agree that most have a proper home. |
Re: Civic forum re-organizations?
Some of the tech forums are more motorsports specific like drag racing, forced induction, all motor(even though labeled wrong) and road racing. Not everything applies to the same. I look at the tech sections for fixing an issue and occasional build thread. The hybrid section applies more to me for the h2b stuff which combines the infor regardless of chassis to one area.

Though i do agree in there current combined form its a complete clusterferk... adding more too it would only make the problem worse. Also this \/ Minus the auto lock, unless it autolocks after 2yrs of inactivity or something extreme. There are build threads that can go for long periods without an update.
