Civic EG AC hose blown apart?
I got an EG sedan and I was in the process of charging my ac it was getting really cold tell the High side hose blew up. My question how much oil do I add to the compressor if the line blew up while the ac was on looks like oil went every where but I heard that R134a refrigerant is oil base. So one of my buddy told me that I don't need to add any pag oil is this true or should I add some after I install the new hose?

Proper charging of an A/C system involves recovery of the refrigerant, evacuation, leak testing, and recharging with precisely the weight of refrigerant indicated in your service manual. Did you know that your A/C system was low on refrigerant prior to adding more?
When oil is lost from the system, you need to add more oil, which is a specific type for use with R134a.

Yeah, what Ron said and deschlong.. also to add you may draw a vaccumn before recovery to ensure you don't have any other problems and allow the vaccumn to draw in the refrigerant and YES you would have to add more oil. The refrigerant carries small amounts to help relubricate systems, but it's minimal. If you blew a hose on the high side chances are you have a blockage somewhere. Traditionally there's a blow off valve that would've popped ahead of time and let out some of the excess. So, you more than likely have a lot more to worry bout then just a simple hose replacement and recharge.

Re: Civic EG AC hose blown apart?
Well I have a h22 in my civic and I had to heat up the lines and bend it a little to fit so i know that what cause the hose to blow up. I will be getting the hoses fixed tomrrow. My ac system was completly taken apart and flushed prior to that and also did vacuum all the air and moisture out of the lines before charging and had a gauge on it too. by the time I started to open the second can of freon thats when the line blew. The place where heated the line up , I guess I made the hose material brittle and that what pretty much caused it to blow. All I needed to know is how much oil do I need to add.

5 oz. If you tore down the compressor and changed parts I would honestly use a pour in type oil instead of the charge in type and I would slowly cycle the clutch while pouring it in.
