Did you check if it had gasoline?

When you turn the key to acc does your CEL come on for a second or two and turn off (in other words, is the fuel pump priming)?

Also, check for spark. (don't know exactly what you do to do that... never had this problem.)

If it is cranking it is not going to be the battery. I would be checking the igniter and ignition coil. Remember Honda dizzys of the 90s are their Achilles Heels. For info on checking the igniter and coil, see http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/faq.html#startrun

That indicates the solder joints on the main relay are probably weak. Take the main relay apart and resolder the joints, or buy a new main relay.

Also, it might be a bad ECU. Happened to me recently.

i had kinda the same problem on my 96 civic.
i was driving. took off from a stop sign racing some guy then my car died.
it cranked but never turned on.
i tried jumping it but it just cranked louder and kinda faster but nada.
had it towed home, checked the ignition coil and it wasnt working.
i bought a new one and vuala!
car started! and now it starts faster and sounds better when its cranking
