Civic Coupe cold air induction?
Looking for some help!
Do you have to take off the air filter box to fit CAI or can you leave the box in place and just fit the cone to the intake tube? or would this be a waste of time?
The civic in question is a non-vtec (it's called an ILS over here) but I think it's the same as a DX.

what year dx? if its a 96-up than the filter box is mounted directly to the t/b and the box behind the pass side headlight is a resonator box and yeah u would have to remove it to put in a true cold air intake. some normal air intakes will fit w/o removing the resonator/filter box. i think this holds true for pretty much all of the civics.

Yea sorry, It's a '96 model.
I'm going to remove the resonator box, but I'm not sure how to go about removing the filter box. What's involved in this? There seems to be a few tubes going into the filter box including the one to the valve cover and also seems to some sort of sensor - what's this for?
I have a 'Green' single cone (very like a K&N) and I'm trying to get a stainless tube made up to go to the filter box. This may seem like a simple task but not over in Ireland!
Talk to you later.

maybe just take the filter out of the filter box and connect the tube to where the filter box has the tube/hose running to the resonator box. i'm thinking of doing this to my g/f's car its got the same setup (its a 99 lx 4door some as dx motor). i know that on the n/a subies there are a couple of intakes that retain the filter box at the t/b to to act as a reserve for the intake therefore maintaining or increasing bottom end performance. if i do it before u i can send u pics of how i do it if u want

just take everything outta there....when you're finished there should be a huge empty space on the front passenger side of the engine

That would be a great help - cheers!

The resonator is not the problem, any ideas on what to do with the filter box?

No, I haven't decided if I'm going to lower it or not!
The Mugen front bumper is pretty low to the ground already and the roads over here aint too flat! The wheels are 17" Fox 1's with 215/40/17 Falken Rubber.
