Civic Automatic to standard conversion help.
I bought a 97 honda civic someone converted it from automatic to standard....well now time for inspection is here and i'm failing because somthing was unplugged so that the check engine light wouldn't come on. And you can't pass inspection with a check engine light on....so my question is How do I fix this....I went to the junkyard and got an ecu from a standard civic....although I know its not gonna be as simple as switching them out....what will I need and what do i need to do to make this happen? Thanks in advance.

Why don't you tell us what code the ecu is throwing and we might be able to offer more help.

Re: Civic Automatic to standard conversion help. (RickyBizee)
well I don't exactly know, would i have to go get it re-inspected to figure out what code its throwing or is there a way I can find out myself? All I know is it won't pass inspection because of somthing being unplugged to keep the check engine light off. Sorry Guys Im really new to this and am not so savy on this kind of stuff. Im trying to be as informative as possible bear with me. And thnx again for fast replies.

take it to an autozone or advanced auto. if it's an obd2 they'll be able to hook it up to the diagnostic and tell you the code(for free).

Re: Civic Automatic to standard conversion help. (RickyBizee)
Ok im back with the codes there were three different codes thrown out and I think only one has something to do with the actual conversion.
Here they are.
P0453: Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor High Input.
P0700: Transmission Control System Malfucntion
P0113: Intake Air Temperature Circuit High Input
Hope this helps guys

yeah that P0700 code is the one probably most related to the swap. that sucks man that's why obd2 suck, to many sensors and codes. none the less, to pass inspection you need to fix all 3.

Re: Civic Automatic to standard conversion help. (philosofy1)
Well I bought a new ecu from a 99 civic manual transmission, but will swapping the ecu work? I just can't see it to be that simple, because there gotta be some kind of shifting sensors or somthing on my harness (since it use to be automatic) that won't work with the new ecu, I mean do I just find out which ones they are and cut em or what? I just don't think swapping the ecu will fix the problem, there has got to be somthing more to it.

Re: (prison_snitch)
Thats the problem I don't know how to fix it, Im sure I can plug the CEL back in but my problem is actually fixing it so I can pass inspection, I have no Idea how to fix it, or what parts Im gonna need or if Im gonna have to get a harness off of a 5 speed and splice into mine...Im pretty noobish at this, I have basic knowledge of this stuff so thats why im here i need help on how to fix this. Sorry Im so noob I know its probably annoying to you guys that I don't know much, but anyway let me know if you can help thnx.

Re: (RickyBizee)
Ok I just went in to try to swap the ecu, found the CEL unplugged couldnot find where the thing plugged into, Does it plug into the actual ECU if so its deffinitely not long enough to reach the ecu, also on my new ecu one of the harnesses won't fit. So im officially stuck now. Any help is appreciated.

the P0453, i'm not quite sure on what this is. since i have a obd1 i don't have to worry about this.
the P0113 sound like the air sensor(not sure of technical name). i believe it's the one that plugs into the manifold(or on newer models on the intake hose).
P0700 is probably because it's looking for automatic. automatic trannies have sensors that manuals don't have. since it's no longer auto it's going to throw this code. unfortuntely i wish i can tell you how to by pass this.
as for the cel being unplugged, you mean the bulb on the cluster? and one of the harnesses doesn't fit on the ecu? what model ecu you have. the id is the middle number on the serial number.
example #### P(#) #####
but for the rest of these sensors, either you will have to replace them or repair the problem. i hope i have been much of help.

Well I figured it out yeah the main problem im worrying about is ti P0700 and apparently I just have to get the right ecu for my model car but one from a standard car, and apparently it should just plug in and replace according do the guy I talked to at Jotech. He said it would fix the P0700 problem as for the rest yeah i'll just have to replace them or, repair. But thanks everyone has been a great help and i really appreciate it!
