Default Civic 97, Inside Door handle broken, Rod slippage?

The driver's door inside opener stopped working. I disassembled the door. The rod that connects the lever to the actual latch had slipped out of all it's clips. So I clipped it back into all the clips and reassembled the door; reconnected to the opener, etc. It worked once. Then it slipped back off the latch end of things.

Any suggestions for what I might be doing wrong. I'm running out of cuss words.

thanks.

Find what parts are broken and just replace it.

ghetto-rig it. lol. is inevitable if you don't replace parts. are you missing clips? look at the diagram on your service manual.
