Default chipping a turbo...diesel

okay i dont know if this belongs here but if not lock it or move it or something please but..

my father has a 2001 dodge ram 3/4 ton cummins turbo diesel and he picked up this chip today and i was wondering if the concept is still the same

like if you had a turbo civic you would want to use uberdata or something like that and get it tuned on a dyno. but i dont know what kind of chip he bought. im thinking its something like piggyback and he didnt do any welding to the ecu.

the chip gave him like and extra 3oo ft. lbs. tq. and i forget how much hp.

but i thought chips for tuner cars are more for naturally aspirated rather than turbo, and i want to know if the same concept goes for my dads truck?

i am just curious. i havent searched yet but im pretty sure this hasn't been covered before. thanks for the help

Chips..or chippin or management systems..tune the vehicle. Like change fuel maps, ignition timing, and etc,....Its a great deal to turbo vehicles...like trucks cause they arent set to any standard..Using the chip unleashes all the hidden power, through fuel maps, boost.and etc.

i told him that he should get it tuned but then again its my dad and i dont think hes that serious about it he just wanted some extra power.

do you think its messing up anything?

it has different settings like some settings are for towing n stuff and they give him different amounts of power but, since its just a chip and the maps on his ecu havent been altered is it hurting him?

is it like using a vafc and adjusting your high lobes or vtec lobes to engage before they are supposed to on your map? like using certain lobes or cams or i dont know before the ecu actually tells them to?

is it healthy for the engine?

thanks for the help

I have a chip on my GTI and it basically gives me new fuel maps, trims, etc. Like said earlier, it unleashes hidden power. I have a 91 octane, 100 octane, valet, and kill mode. You dont need to tune it because thats why you pay the $495. I didnt have to weld anything, its flash loaded through my OBD port, i can modify my timing and boost via the same port using a VAG COM and my laptop

Turbo Diesels and chips are match made in heaven!

Just ask any European H-T members where over here most cars are Diesels. Power hikes are from anywhere between 20 to 45% easy with Diesels. As far as I know (and I don't know much about diesels) is that they get lots of power just from an aftermarket ECU but I guess thats about it.

There have been alot of comparitive tests done by alot of magazines testing Gas powered vs. Diesel and with just an ECU upgrade Diesel always comes out winning.
