Default Chipping a p72 worth it?

Hey.

So I got a stock b16a2 in an eg right now and Im planning on a b20z bottom end in a few months. So ill be running b20vtec and im wondering if chipping a p72 is a good idea.

I know most people like to get chipped p28 but since im running the stock p72 for my b16a2 already why not just chip that instead of buying another p28 and chipping it.

so basically the question is. chipped p72 vs chipped p28?

i dont even know if people chip p72's..

need opinions please!

ps. i believe p72 is the stock gsr and p28 is the stock sohc vtec.
and was also curious which performs better. because I am aware that the p72 has two vtec engagements when the butterfly opens up and when the vtec actualy cracks. and the p28 has one engagement. does that mean the p28 is better because it engages once hard instead of maybe 2 small engagements?

correct me if im wrong thanks much!

i am not sure actually. i thought it was obd1.

to be honest i dont even really know what the difference is everyone just tells me its about the setup for passing emissions or w/e.

another thing.

i get CEL whenever vtec engages. and the CEL stays on until i turn off the car and start it back up then it finally goes away.

could this be because the ecu? i already tried switching vtec solenoids.

also tried switching ecu's with my friends p28 chipped on hondata100 and i felt like i lost power at around 7k rpm and didnt even feel like vtec kicked. also tried a chipped ls ecu and felt like the same thing.

but i tried the stock p28 and the CEL still came on so im not sure if its the ecu.

and its only when vtec engages when the CEL turns on.

P72 comes in OBD1 also, if you're gonna chip it, then it doesn't really matter which ECU you choose to use, aslong as it's the same OBD as the motor. Just make sure when it's getting chipped it's gonna be a DOHC VTEC. If you use the P72 then just have the butterflies removed.
