Chipping the d16 ecu

Chipping the d16 ecu
this was my a/f reading during my dyno runs.. i'm currently leading my class so I'm not too interested in putting much more money into the civic.. however, i would like the engine to run less rich. i know there's SAFC and hondata, but i'm looking for the under $200 range. are there any pregrommed ecu's or can the current ecu be chipped to have a better mapping? i have a 97 civic dx hatch. only engine mod is intake and exhaust.

Your going to spend around $175-$225 at a reputable shop getting it dyno tuned with a chipped ecu..
Btw your car has a ''p28'' ecu so you can quit referring it as the d16 ecu.. well at least it's a p28 if its 92-95
Is your motor d16z6, d16y8?
Btw: you would also need a VAFC as these are for VTEC engines and SAFC'S are for not VTEC engines, but IMHO i would much rather have a chipped ecu over a VAFC anyday.

I don't think dyno tuning a y7 with only intake an exhaust is going to do anything other than empty your pockets. The stock ecu can adjust itself for those little bolt-ons.

to properly tune an obd2 car, you'll need a programmable ecu. usually means a obd1 chipped ecu or something. tune with crome or uberdata, probably can be done for about 200 to 250 street tuned. you'll also need an obd1 conversion harness. hondata is good, but expensive, plus you'll need tuning. uberdata is free software, you'll just need the chipped ecu and the professional tuner's time.
personally i wouldn't recommend a piggyback for an obd2 car. they just dont work well.

that sucks.. i was really hoping for something my friend did to his 95 delsol.. i think he got his ecu chipped which had a better fuel curve and raised his vtec engagement point.. i think it was 100 or 150 for it...
this is my friend's 97 obd2 m3 at the same dyno.. stock ecu.. pretty good a/f mix until about 5k rpm..
here's another friend's 97 obd2 m3.. same dyno.. but flashed ecu.. i'm kinda shooting for that range.. mine is just too rich..

yeah.. 95 del sol, obd1 [92-95 obd1, 96+ obd2]. also about the m3, their ecu's are different. the eeprom socket is actually there, unlike our hondas. makes it easy for em, and a pita for us
