chipped SOHC ECU...on a SOHC instead of a DOHC?
I see a lot of DOHC guys using chipped P28s on their n/a setups. SOHCs can run this setup too right? What would be the drawback of running, say a Skunk2 or Spoon program on a D16y8? I don't see many SOHCs running chipped ECUs.

just about any car can have the ecu chipped...
there are LOTS of guys with stock motors (moddified stock) with chipped ecu's...
the chip replaces timing and fuel info as well as rpm limiter as well as speed limiter...
SO chipping a p28 in the car that it comes in is fine as long as the program is well designed for the application...

most DOHC guys run chipped P28's because they are the easiest to chip and don't have a knock sensor or speed limiter...so they chip the p28 to have better fuel maps for their own motors and run em...
most SOHC guys dont chip their P28's because it already has all of the stuff they need
a problem with running a chipped p28 on a d16y8 (or any other obd II car for that matter) will be dealing with emissions...because as you all know emissions for OBD2 cars is done through the ecu not the muffler

my car's got a p28 and is obdI...
it also has a speed limiter. and rev limiter...
but yeah generally there's no need to chip a stock civic ecu because the fuel is dynamically tuned based on inputs from various sensors at anything but WOT... so just dumping in extra fuel would generally be adverse.

Well the problem with the type of P28 program that I run (intended for B18C5 Type R engine) on a SOHC VTEC is that the fuel maps would be WAY too rich, and the rev limiter (like 9500rpm) would be way too high and much overkill for a D16Z6 or D16Y8 engine even if it was built because they'd stop making good power past 7800rpm or so in 99% of the cases.
