Default chipped p28?

hey everyone. i have a 92 civic si hatch wit a 95 j-spec obd1 b18c1. mods include custom exhaust, and short ram intake. my car is fun to drive but i would like alittle more performance gains on the street while im saving for a turbo kit. my question is do you think its SAFE and or PRACTICAL to use a chipped p28 or p72 on my stock motor until i have enough money to purchase a turbo kit. i just do not like the jspec p72 fuel cut out at 120mph i would defintely not like to blow up my motor. any opinions are greatly appreciated.

thanks

Its very safe and very practical if you have a reputable person do it. Lots of people on the board are running a chipped p28 perminatley.

i wouldn't recommend it unless you can find a program optimized for the IAB on the GSR motor.most aftermarket programs are made to use a regular style intake manifold.you need to also be careful of the high rev-limiters most programs have.your stock valvetrain can't rev as high as some are set.
i would recommend going with a Skunk2 intake manifold.this will give you many more options for what program you can run.the manifold will also help with the turbo,so it's a good long term investment.
here is where i'd recommend to do it:

you can defitnaly make improvements in the power band and remove the speedlimiter. safe, reliable and practical - yes, it can be. you can run anything from stock USDM GSR program to something more mild streetable programs JDM program such as JUN.

JDM P72 simply sucks,(what JDM sucks?) I have dynoed one versus a USDM p72 & Mugen chipped p28, and saw gains of as much 20lb/ft of torque in the low/mid range.
IAB operation is an issue only in low to mid-throttle response, power in WOT is the same/simliar +-2whp from 3k rpm on, with IAB functioning or not. again turbo chips are avaliable from guys such as Blake (uberteg) and few others. ECUs and chips for NA guys check my sig. (smaless plug)

Just get a USDM P72. Why do you need to go over 120mph?

My thoughts exactly. Get a VAFC and till to your hearts content. That way you can be running a custom "program" for your very own car, and you won't have to deal with the raised rev limiters of the other programs that could lead to your car's early demise.
