Checking for matching numbers.
So, I'm hoping to buy a '00 Civic Si that is up for sale in my area, however, I know that it is a vehicle in which you need to be very wary of the possibility of fraud when considering purchase. My (very, very important) question is, is there a way to use the vehicle's identification number to find out what engine/tranmission serial numbers are supposed to match the VIN to ensure authenticity? Also, where on the block and transmission case are the serial numbers located? Thanks so much for any information you can give me.
By the way, I did several searches for this topic on this forum, and it yielded no results. But if it has been discussed before, I apologize, and the link would be very helpful.

Re: (pdiggitydogg)
Awesome! Thank you so much. I found out that the seller not only has this apparently clean Civic Si, but is also selling a really nice '00 Prelude Type SH. So when I found out he had nice and not-so-common Hondas coming out the wazoo, I got a little concerned and decided to do a lot of research. I'll also be doing a VIN history check, of course. Anyway, thanks again.
