Endless pads don't have squealers to let you know when they are low, and I forgot that the inner pad wears quicker than the outer pad, so of course, me checking the outer pad and seeing it had plenty left was pointless. I was greeted to a fair bit of grinding last night and this afternoon I went home and checked it out to find I gouged the crap out of my driver's side rotor. Doh.

Parts run to NAPA for pads and rotors and $100 and a few hours later, everything is back to normal.

Those Phillips screws on the rotors suck, I almost stripped a couple of them, luckily I found a ratched w/ screwdriver socket.

The Spindle Nut that is torqued to 134+ ft/lbs sucks, too. One came off easy; the other did NOT come off so easy. Nothing a little blow torch action didn't fix though.

Anyway, that's it, keep an eye on your pads or succumb to having to fix things at the last minute. ~

but I agree, and check your brake lines if you installed SS ones too, mine were almost bent once!

A manual impact driver is the correct tool for that job.

The rotor comes off w/ just removal of the screws? LOL. Guess I was lookin' at that Helms a little back-assward.

i was planning on doing my fronts sometime do they have the same screws as the rear ones, i dont remember seeing that in the helms but i havent looked @ the big teal book in like six months. help for the lazy. oh yeah what is the deal w/ the impact screw driver when i used it for the rears all it did was make a situation where someone else had to do it (i dont know how readable this is , late and tired)

if you reinstalled the screws go take them off
they dont do **** except make rotor replacment a PAIN IN THE ***.
all they do is hold the rotor in place till you put your lugnuts on and tighten them.

Nope, got the same advice from three different tire dealers when i ended up stripping one of mine. Once you tighten down your actual wheels, the roters stay true and straight.

Why is it dumb? I have taken the screws off of every honda I have ever done brakes on? Some as long as 10 years, and many sets of rotors ago. The previous poster is more than correct. The rotor is balanced from the manufacturer, and as has been previously stated, the screws do not do anything after the wheels are in place. My personal daily driven civic hasn't had the screws on it, for 4 years, and almost 100 000 km (60 000 miles).

Yeah, you DO NOT need the screws on the rotor.
But, if you have an Impact screwdriver you will never have a problem taking them on or off.

FYI, the Rotors are Hubcentric (meaning they center themselves on the hubs) and the screws have nothing to do with keeping them centered.

correct! there are NO problems with drilling off the heads of these screws so go drill them off instead of pounding an impact-screwdriver, it will be much faster to drill them off.

Ok, this I am definately going to take issue with, I have broken the tips off of at least 4 Phillips head bits, with my hand held impact trying to get these screws off, good thing we have a tool replacement program at work for tools damaged at work, hehehe...man, if they ever ask what i broke that thing on at work I don't know what I'm going to tell them. They just keep replacing them no questions asked.

Hm. Cool. I put them on there pretty loose and w/ anti-seize but next time I guess I'll throw 'em in the garbage.

...Now to bleed my brakes...

if i cant take the screws of the rotors, i just put 2 or 4 lugs back on and tighten them all the way. after that the screws should come out pretty easily.
