Check engine light coming on 99 Si, restricting RPM to 6500 help!
99 Civic Si problem..
I am hoping someone knows what this is so I can get it taken care of without a long tow to find out it still isn't fixed.
I race a Si in SCCA. I was at a race this past weekend and my check engine light came one (1st problem) but then I quickly realized that my damn car would only rev to 6500 rpms. Felt like a had a new rev limiter. This completely screwed up my race and I had to part it on Saturday.
I checked the code and it was 1259. I ran through the PCM clear routine and took it out again for qualifying and all was fine.
Race time, happened again with 1 lap left in the race. Thank god I was far enough ahead of the 2nd place car that I still won the race. My last lap was almost 6 seconds slower than my slowest lap during the race
Anyway I was supposed to go to Daytona to race this weekend, looks like I am going to have to cancel. I am too worried about making a 20 hour tow (10+10) only to find out it isn't fixed (assuming I got it fixed before I left). I am worried a goose chase may start and the problem really not get fixed.

Well it doesn't sound like your going into limp mode. You would have a rev limit at about 3k.
do you have your stock cat ? it could be messed up. does it feel like a limiter or it won't rev over 6500. is vtec kicking in ?

1259?? Recheck your code cause there is no such code.
Remember that one long blink is equal to 10 and a short blink is equal to 1
Also remember to see if there is any long pauses inbetween codes. I think you have 2 seperate codes coming up.

Pull the codes, first of all.
Whoever said limp mode puts a fuel cut at 3k rpms.... wrong
In limp mode, fuel cut should be around 7k rpm
It could be something as simple as low oil pressure.... check all your fluid levels.
Good luck

when i had a distributor problem my car would go into limp mode and the fuel would cut off at 3500 rpm.

i had a similar problem likk this, i was running my car hard on a straight away, the check engine light flickered once, (maybe for a milisecond, i dont htink i could of seen it) and the car felt likk i redlined at 5,500 or 6,000, it happen to me twice, i change my spark plugs and hasnt done it since, but im still paranoid that it may happen.

do you have a vafc? if the VTM wire isn't properly hooked up it will cut it off at 6500 rpm's.

Only reason I would be suprised if it was is that I topped it off about 20 minutes before my race on Saturday You could be right though I guess (uneven ground, miss read etc.)

It's a DTC code, guys go buy a Helms already.
DTC P1259 = a code 22.
Vtec System malfunction......
You are running into limp mode with the code on, hence your slower times.
Probable Causes:
Vtec Solenoid valve
Open or short in Vtec solenoid valve circuit
Vtec Pressure Switch
Open or short in Vtec pressure switch circuit
ECU
</TD></TR></TABLE>
Tim, my old motor would use up a quart+ each session on the track. Check yours and maybe invest in a baffled oil pan to keep the sloshing down in the twisties!!!
