check engine light is on?!
im in utica, ny, 3 hours away from buffalo (my home) and my check engine light is on..(99 civic si), manual says it may be a loose gas cap..wasnt....i just got my oil changed to mobil 1.. i doubt thats the problem.. but my question is, is it safe to drive 3hours home?... I'm ready to spend like 10k total on the engine anyways to replace all its internals and add a supercharger and nitrous..but I need to make it home first..theres no speed shops here, and even if i get home i cant have the engine work done just yet as Im finishing up school and I need a car to drive.. well im going to go see if honda is open on memorial day, post your thoughts on what I should do if it isnt..

Do you have any mods? There is a way to check the code without a scanner. You need to put the ends of a paperclip in the service check connector, and you check engine light will blink the code.
Your car should be safe to drive. BTW, change your own oil, you can't trust those mobile 1 guys.

Your car will drive fine, but I would recommend a new oxygen sensor when you have the money and time. I drove with no oxygen sensors for about a month. And I swear during that month I had better then average fuel consuption.

raspy? if you have a O2 failure then your ecu sets your mixture rich. I don't think there would be a tapping noise from that. I have heard of people using full synthetics and getting weird engine noises, by what others say it is caused by thin oils. I'm not too sure about all that since I never use full synthetics.
to change out your O2 it requires a O2 sensor socket, and a little anti-seize. unplug your battery, remove the lower collector pipe for the header remove O2, replace with new and anti-seize. or if you want to get **** rapped by some service specialist named john from honda take it to your nearest dealership.

If it's the o2 then, the car should run rich so it should be bad to drive with it for a while. But sooner or later, the richness will cause a slight damage to your rings and stuff I believe. So fix it if you can! also, they are not cheap I will tell you that.

My question is, Is it really definite that it's the oxygen sensor in the header is the culprit for this warning?
Is there anyway to change the sensor without unbolting the collector section of the DC header? reason why I asked this is because I have the 1 piece 4-2-1 DC header and if it is, I have to unbolt the whole thing..
