Default Check engine light on

I was driving my car (98 civic EX) home last night and the check engine light came on about a block down the road. Everything was fine(no sputter no overheating no running too lean or too rich) I pulled over and the speedometer said I was still going 20 mph. Then, after no explosions or gremlins laughing at me, I started leaving again. Speedometer said I was still doing 20, but was not at all, I was closer to 40. My friend said I should just turn off the car while I was driving and the ecu would reset. I put it in neutral and turned it off then turned it back on. The check engine light was still on but at least the speedometer started working. Nothing is wrong other than the light being on so should i just pull the number 3 fuse by the engine or should i check it out?

2 reset the ecu you have to taKE OFF the negative terminal off the battery for lyk 20 seconds and then plug it back in that will reset it not just turnin it on

Pull the code out of the computer first. You'll probably find a Code 17- VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor. Hondas are known for having these go bad.

im not too worried about reseting the ecu ( but thanks to you i actually no how when the time comes )im more worried about if that sound like a legitamit problem or just a fluke. It is really ******* cold up here and i wonder if that did it.

its actually better to just remove the ECU fuse in the engine bay fuse box

that way you dont loose your radio presets

have you done this b4? it doesn't reset your ECU. you need to pull the 7.5A "Back up" fuse. if you have a factory stereo, you will need to reset your stereo presets, clock, and you'll need your radio's security code. i have an aftermarket deck, and i didn't have to reset my stations.
