Check Engine?
I have a 93 del sol with a d16z6 in it with a header exhaust and intake nothing much other than that and recently the check engine came on when I was driving so I got home checked it and all the fluids and nothing seemed wrong it was running fine no noises or anything. I took it to my mechanic and he couldnt find anything either and the light was gone after I shut it off and never came back for like a few days and today it came on agian when I was driving but the car is running fine any ideas what this might be? I cant figure it out.

Re: Check Engine?
It could be the commuter valve or possibly the connutsen valve. Those things are tricky!
Do a search for how to check a Check Engine Light. See if the code is still in there (it will stay in memory until you clear it). Then post back. Looking at fluids or the engine will NOT tell you what's wrong.

Re: Check Engine?
I just put the header on like a month ago and put a new O2 sensor in at the same time and it could maybe have something to do with that but ill have to look up how to check the code and get back to you guys. should I not drive it I mean it runs fine and there isnt anything wrong that ive noticed.

Re: Check Engine?
you pull the CEL Jumper out of the little holder which is under the dash by the ECU, then put a paperclip or wire between the 2 terminals to jump it. Then turn the key and it will flash the codes for the CEL. You can look in the sticky's for this section, it has the instructions on how to do it and how to read the light flashes.

I checked the code it comes back 43 which is fuel system supply what could this be? I was thinking a fuel pump but ive heard that honda fuel pumps rarely go or maybe it could be a fuel filter or something let me know what you guys think.

Re: Check Engine?
I checked some things earlier and I dont think that it is a fuel pump at all or fuel injectors or anything since I check the spark plugs and it doesnt look like any cylinder is burning rich or anything and I also checked the spark plug wires for maybe something causing a weak spark but they look good im thinking that it could be the fuel filter or probably the o2 sensor that was recently put in maybe you guys know anything else that it could be?

Re: Check Engine?
The O2 usually don't have anything to do with the fuel system code, that would b a wierd first for me to hear about if it was. The last time I had the code was when a guy replaced his fuel pump and did a crappy job of putting the wires back together. The time b4 that was a guy did a crappy job putting his injectors in and lost a clip.

Re: Check Engine?
tell you the truth dude it could be simple....1st things 1st a tech would check your gas cap (see if its on tightly make sure it clicks).if thats not it try taking disconnecting the battery for like 5 seconds put it back on if its gone drive it for a bit...if it comes back on PM me. I ran into these problems alot of times and hey i try not to think of the worse case...

"Technically", the O2 sensor is part of the fuel system as it controls the fuel mixture during closed loop mode. I realize that it doesn't directly involve fuel, or has fuel going through it.
Since the code was set and hasn't come back, it could be similar to the problem I had where the element is damaged. I would just ride it out and see if it comes back.

Re: Check Engine?
Ok thanks ya it actually is almost the exact same as you said. It only comes on when its cold and it kicks on exactly at the same time every time. I think it is the o2 sensor since I didnt have any problems before I changed that with my header. I checked all the little stuff that I could like the gas cap and all that and it is running fine. It is running like normal but with the check engine light on thats why I think you guys are right i just have a feeling its the o2 but I could be wrong I will check some things and take the battery terminal off and run it and see if it comes back. thanks for the help ill let you guys know if it comes back on.

Re: Check Engine?
I reset my ecu on monday and drove it like normal and it didnt come back at all yesterday but it has come on a couple of times today. So I checked the code to maybe see if it was any different but it came back 43 again. So Im going to change the o2 sensor tomorrow and see if that fixes it and if that doesnt work I have no clue what it is.
