cheap ways to make an EK fast????
hey guys.. im about to get a 96 EK hatch... i dotn have a lot of money right off the bat to do a swap... so im buildin a motor piece by piece... but i want to have a somewhat quick EK while it still has the sohc motor on it... does anyone have any tips or advice for me.....???????????

If you are building another motor, dont waste any money on your stock motor. Use it on your other motor and get it in there sooner.

why would someone want to do that if you are (drag)bracket racing?
name of the game isn't lower times, its about consistancy. (if drag racing is your cup of tea)
if you want a fast EK, remove the doors, motor, seats, hatch and get a CF hood.

I agree with Tonyxcom. Why dump money into the stock motor when you can use the money more wisely on your future swap. I personally would improve the suspension and brakes. With suspension and brakes upgraded the car will be much improved and only awaiting the motor swap.
Ask BCRUZ about the S2k motor he has in his hatch..

believe it or not....suspension.
i got kyb agx's and eibach sportlines. you can prob get a set for less than 400. my 97CX is pretty tight with acceleration. with my set up, tanabe racing medallion and just an AEM CAI, gutted interior and short shifter i was able to manage a 16.1 at the track

maybe a y8 head swap with a zex cam down the road . . .
Also like everyone else is saying do not forget about suspension, no point in having a quick car if it cannot handle well.

when you say you have little money, do you mean $0? I agree with others in saying don't waste money on the stock engine if you're going to soon take it out. Save money and get your swap here sooner.
If you are content with your sohc, you can make serious power with a turbo kit also.

Don't waste money on the stock motor if your going to do a motor swap, use the money you have to get suspension and other goodies (Besides engine mods). As for the way to make them fast... Weight reduction and nitrous for now, like back seats, pass.seat, jack, spare, carpet, door panels. And nos because you can just take it out when you get the motor.
But, if you do not want to do a motor swap, i highly suggest a Turbo
