Cheap speed?
Hey I'm wondering if there are any mods i can do to my civic with little to no money and make it go a little faster. I have a 2000 civic dx hatch with the d16y7 and i have no money for mods cuz i'm payin insurance and gas and the whole nine yards. like every car lover i want to make my car as sick as possible and i'm joining the army soon so i should have some of my sign on bonus to put in the car, and i'm spending the money i have for mods on a duraflex body kit cuz the front and rear bumpers are damaged thanks to a careless driver. But for now i was wondering what i could do to my car in my garage, I have all the tools to do modifications and mechanical experience.
So is there anything i can do in my garage for no money to make my car go faster?

Finish what the other guy didnt do. Destroy your car! Atleast like that we will have 1 less ricer in the streets. I rather see it gone then be in the wrong hands.

Re: Cheap speed?
Please do explain to us all how in the hell does that = JDM?
If you dont want to be bashed then dont give us a motive to do so.
So basically dont buy that POS body kit and save that money for a B series or a turbo or something.

Re: Cheap speed?
For little to no money I would clean the car wash shampoo claybar/wax it always makes me like my car more.
For little money I would do a basic tune up....maybe K&N filter give it a little more pep.
for about $300 you could prob pick up a ZEX kit that would prob be the most bang for the buck imo
Other than that doing stuff to your car when you have no money is how awful cars are built lol
Ignore the haters, do what you like not what others like thats what i do. In the end its just a civic, its not like its a Ferrari or some thing.

Re: Cheap speed?
if you cant afford any expensive performance parts try getting yourself a CAI. You can find them for cheap on ebay. A cold air intake will add little power but it will also sound nice and it will give you the impression of going faster. haha jk You will enjoy your car more with an intake because it gives you a sporty feel.
Since you have no money you good look at the other side. WEIGHT REDUCTION. Even though our hondas are lightweight you can do little things to eliminate some and you will feel a bit of a difference. But like others stated above id ditch the body kit. buy stock bumpers and a nice looking lip kit!

No ne is hating on him. If he likes them then go for it. But when he says" I dont like that ricer ****" and then posts a pic of a body kit. You know he had it coming. He's better of buying some stock bumpers with a lip and maybe he will still have some left over cash for a egay CAI with a k&n filter and call it a day. As for me posting a pic after you first.

Re: Cheap speed?
Get a basic tune up. It will make your engine feel much better.
example:
change spark plugs to platinum or maybe NGK iridium for $35 bucks
change timing belt $30 and do ignition timing by purchasing a timing light $25 ebay?
change your oil to something like Castro synthetic blend $20 and hemp oil filter $6 for more oil pressure
*If you want to upgrade to bolt ons then look to ebay for parts because you dont want to spend alot of money on a single cam d16y7.
ebay header: $40
Cai or short ram intake $30
More advance upgrades for less money:
Get a d16y8 manifold because it faces to the side like all the other b series manifolds $40
or get a d16y8 head with the manifold on it with the vtec solenoid $300
*this is called a mini swap. Your basically using the d16y7 bottom block and replacing the non vtec d16y7 head with a vtec head from a d16y8 as well as the ecu. You can also replace the transmission for a d16y8 too but if you want to save money then use your old d16y7.
replace clutch and pressure plate for something more stiffer like Exedy or ACT
get a p2p or d16y8 Ecu obd2 $40
d16y8 headgasket oem $50???
Other methods:
strip down your car.... take off the back seats, carpet, get dry ice and set it on the sound tar then break it with a hammer and remove it.
remove your power steering and air conditioning. Get a carbon fiber hood etc.. Just try to get it as light as possible
But for heavens sake dont get a body kit at all.. No matter how it looks. Only use stock oem bumpers, headlights, and lips. They were cool back in the early 90's but with a body kit of anykind its a sure way you will end up in the "ricer" category and you dont want that..

Re: Cheap speed?
ok i just saw some cheap OE bumpers from hondapartswholesale.com so i'll pick those up and put a CTR lip kit on it since that is the more JDM approach as for the mods i'm literally broke right now i'm using money from my savings to buy it and the rest is for college so i'm just looking for little things to tweak in my garage right now until i get more $$ and to the dude thats bashing me it's cool dude i understand you cuz i hate ricers as much as you, and it's true that body kits are ricey, but i figured it looked like the C-West kit for the civic so it was cool..my bad i am a true JDM guy though. when i get my army sign up bonus and drill pay i'm buying a B16 CTR motor or B18 ITR motor.

Re: Cheap speed?
First of all, where in "northern" NY are you from.
Second of all, which recruiting station are you going thru (and which recruiter)
And third of all, honda hatches are sick, and I think that bumper is pretty nice.
Cold air intake, exhaust, short shifter, and suspension mods will do ya good.
