cheap place to get unorthodox pullies?
I want to get a CRV lightweight crank pulley,
but they're like 200 before shipping from unorthodox..
kinda pricey.
does anyone know of a good site that sells these?
or a few sites would be nice actually, as the pulley I want is fairly specific,
and not too common.
i'm running a jrsc, so to up the boost I plan on getting their CRV crankpulley,
with no underdrive, and no ac or ps, so JUST the crank pulley portion,
should be super super light.
Also read on their site that the bseries ones even put out a slight overdrive..
so **** i'm not even sure how much boost it will make exaclty.. but I have a feeling
it'll be alot, as the stock crv crank should make around 8.5lbs at least..
thanks!

oh yeah that reminds me,
I was meaning to ask. Would it be possible to take it to a machine shop and
have it balanced?

I'm not sure. Factory crank pulleys have a material in the center that unorthodox doesn't. I've seen some in the past that have been warped, bent, cracked, etc. The last one I dealt with, I pulled off my roommates turbo b16. It was all jacked up and caused the oil pump to shatter and make some rod bearings spin
Have you looked into the Fluidamper unit? Contact Arturbo, he sells them

read up on the fluidamper..
looks odd..
I HAVE to have a specific crank pulley diameter to get my sc boosting right.

ok.
thanks.
I'd assume if I got the unorth balanced though it should be ok?
although I supose someone would have thought of that before if it did work..

if this is for a b-series engine, why not just get a civic type-r pulley...
factory balanced but you have no power steering...
you can get CTR pulleys for like $65

it's dseries,
but ppl have used the CRV crank on their dseries before..
with no problems..
I wonder if a ctr would work,
i'm guessing its also bigger, though probably not as big as a crv crank

well I still think the unortho crv crank is my best bet. as long as I get it balanced.
so back to the original question,
anyone know someplace that sells em cheaper than the unorth site? 200bux is a bit much for a crankpulley.

yeh ebay has unorth pullies..
but the chances of them having a NON underdriving CRV crank..
not good...
and yeh i've been checking.
I'll hunt down some shops that sell the stuff..

and that is???
anyhoo, I found a site with the pulley i'm looking
for for 170 and free shipping.
unorthodox wrote numerous times in their site about how
this pulley is a good choice for upping boost on JRSC's.. so I wasn't the first to
think of this.
I just hope I can get it balanced..

Re: (Icey112)
in order to balance the pulley you will have to pull the entire bottom end of your motor apart, The CTR is supposed to be dampened but still the rotational weight of the bottom end is different.
If I were you I would not spend 200 bux to shorten the lifespan of your rod bearings dramatically.
I would and am getting the ATI unit however.

hmm I see..
so its not that the pulley is out of balance itself,
but rather that it doenst match the inner workings of the rods/crank spinning around in there..
makes sense..
But then wouldn't that mean that any foreign crank would have the same effect?
people use crv cranks all the time with no prob for upping boost.
And this one weighs only 1lb so i'd think that would help things?

Re: (Tad)
UP because I'm curious about this?
Endyn, and Jacksonracing sell boost upgrade crank pulleys,
they are built by endyne or JR, and obviously arent going to have
any harmonic dampening characteristics.
So does this mean that they are just as bad as an unorthodox pulley??
and what about using crankpullies from a different engine?
thnx

well put simply people do alot of things, replacing a crank pulley is not the end of the world for a motor obviuosly. But when I spend money I always think about the ultimate longevity, since I drive my cars very hard I can't really afford to lessen there relibility.
The factory balance has a certain margin of error so chances are it's not going to be a dramatic difference, but it's certainly not a good thing.

Hmm,
well said.
and yeah that is why I keep bumping this,
I really want to know exactly how I would be affecting reliability..
The SAFE route to go, would be a smaller blower pulley..
but the smallest you can go will net you 8psi(maybe9 if ur lucky), any smaller and you get belt slippage.
I want at least 9-10psi..
