Default charcoal canister??

do i need the charcoal canister in my civic hatch? ill be using a b18 c1. im not completely sure what it does, i know its something that has to do with emissions, and was wonderign if i could scrap it all together or if its a crucial part in making my car run right... if i do need it should i used the original from the civic or the one out of my gsr to complement the motor? thanks for any help

I had a b16 in my 94 hatch. Took out the charcoal canister and it ran fine.

The charchol canister is part of the EVAP system. It works to get rid of the vapor from the gas tank, by running it through the charchol canister and into the intake manifold and the ECUs discression. You can remove it, but remember that your venting gas vapor into the open atmosphere.

with that said, you probably want to cut that line further back by the gas tank so gas vapor doesnt build up under the hood.
