Default Changing redline in EX Cluster?

This is just a simple question to see if this can be done or if the RPM's will be different. I know not many people like the idea of overlays but I'm just looking for a cheap alternative to an SI cluster and not the Sharpie Method. Is the EX tachomoter calibrated differently than the SI or is the SI's redline just marked higher up? Any insight would be helpful.

Flame away, im expecting it. But hey....

Yeah you can take stock clusters to whatever RPMs you want as long as you can read it. If you just wonna make it look "pretty" you can change it.

Has anyone ever put in SI overlays in an EX and had them work correctly. I got a set cheap and just hooked the up but the rpms are incorrect like I was worried about. My car which currently has the D16y8 engine shows that the VTEC is kicking in at around 6200-6500 instead of 5500 and it shows me redlining at 8000 instead of 7200. I know this isnt the actual RPM's that my car is going cuz I havent changed anything else. Is the SI Cluster Calibrated differently than the EX and that is the reason you might need the actual SI cluster? Why would this be happening if the SI and EX are the same cluster essentially (minus obvious differences) with the redline just marked at 8000 instead of 7200? Any help would be great.

the lines on the si cluster probably get closer together towards the end of the gauge.. if u look at the ex cluster next to it u will probably see the redlines in about the same place and the needle will move the same as it would on the other tach...

Factory tachs are off sometimes up in the higher RPM range, down low it will be closer but once you start going up it will get less accurate...

The tachometers are calibrated differently. As you can see, the Si tach marks off 9500 RPM in roughly the same arc that the EX tach marks off only 8500 RPM.
