Changing pistons! help!
I have a b16a MOTOR,
im wanting to fit B16B pistons, i have the wrist pins and also rings for these!
My car model is: EG9 dohc
what i need to know is,
Is it possible to fit the pistons in WITHOUT taking the engine out!!
i know its not recomended, but how much more difficult does it make it and is something likely to go wrong!?
Also will these pistons clear the piston to wall tolerance!?!?
all help appreciated.

Re: Changing pistons! help! (kenb16a)
You can put them in the way your refeing to, but I wouldnt. You need to take the engine apart, get the block honed and then replace the bearings and put it all back together. That at the VERY LEAST is what needs to be done IMO.

Re: (www.megameet.org)
are your pistons shot? is there a reason for this, because if not.. then save yourself the time/money.. bearings are about 170 for oem, and then honer is like 30 bux.. you can do that yourself w/ a handdrill.. read up on it first. new rings = 90.. ring compressor 10-20 bux.. its alot of **** u need to do, you already pulled off the head right? if your doing it w/ the motor in, you need to take your head off.. and take apart the bottom end of u're car.. oil pan all the way till you see your crank/rods.. then you can take out your pistons from there, just loosen and push through top..

You dont have to hone the block.
As a matter of fact, if I remember right, honda doesnt recommend it unless you have cyl wall scarring from top to bottom.
You can replace pistons in the car and I know quite a few people who do it.
It saves quite a bit of time.

Re: (Slopoke)
you dont have to hone the block hu.....right.....look to see if the side walls look like smooth glass, and see for your self.
I havent met one engine builder yet that would ever say, you dont need it.

Then your "engine builders" dont know their head from their ***.
If I have a good running gsr motor, with 50k miles, that I want to throw ITR pistons in, I do not HAVE to hone the cyl walls.
It all depends on their condition. But odds are, if I have a motor that is in good shape. The cyl walls are in good shape too.
