there is a how to change an axle thread.

if you can do that, you can change the joint. only difference is, once you have the axle out, put the axle in a vice and clamp on the shaft wheel side hanging down.. then get a good heavy hammer and forcefully, but gently bang the outer joint off the shaft. it's only on there with the same clip and splines set-up that hold the inner joint in the tranny. and make sure you put the new boot on while the joint is off.. it's easy to forget lol

That's the main jist of it. I usually just toss the entire axle and pop a new on in, however.

Save yourself the trouble and just install a new one. I once did just the boot replacement and it was a pain in the ****, not worth doing it.

^ Agreed. Just had my axles replaced due to CV boot throwing grease. Did both sides. New inner and outer boots, new axles, new joints, ball joints inspected ... now those things are dealt with and I don't need to worry about them anymore. Feels good.

yeah, just replace the axle. It's not that much more and makes the job much easier. Also, chances are if one side is going bad, the other will soon follow so plan on replacing both

i think u'll get more trouble from the axle nut than the cv joint itself, unless u got an impact gun
