Default changing b16 axels

So i noticed the left side looks like it has a dust shield right against the tranny, and the right side is like the regular d series axel, I only need to change the left side, any ideas guys? Not sure how to just remove the left side by itself without damaging the dust cover.

Dust shield? Agaist the tranny? I've replaced many B-series axles and I am drawing a blank...

Just pop the axle out of the intermediate shaft and out of the hub.

You mean the inspection plate for the flywheel? You don't need to touch that.

Yeah, it can be a PITA. I usually use a short prybar or large flat head screwdriver to pry the two appart. Worse case senario, remove the 3 14mm IM shaft bearing support bolts and pull it out of the tranny. Now you can pry the two apart on a bench. A vice is your friend in this case.

I always pull out the intermediate shaft along with the axle and separate them off the car. It might take a few minutes longer, but it's always seemed easier to me.

what are the chances of an intermediate shaft going bad? Not often? Just curious.

hey man do not worry about that shield. just pry that axle out of the intermediate shaft and slide the new one in. you wont harm the plate.

No, but everything wears out eventually.

Mine had 160k on it when I installed it 6 years ago, no problems (I'm not saying this is typical though).
