changing the alternator on an EJ1
this is the first civic i have owned, picked it up 2 weeks ago...
the alternator is seized on it and i need to replace it...
im hoping that i could get some direction as to how i would be able to do this myself...
can it be removed from the top of the car or must it be done from below?
i've searched the topic but havent been able to find any posts that explain how to remove this...
if you know of a link where i can read up on it, please post it here....
also, does anyone know if there is a haynes manual for this model civic?
i appreciate all your help...

theres only a 14 holding it on the bottom and a 12 up top for adjustment and a big plug. the problem is physically removing it. i think in one of the manuals it said you had to remove wheel and halfshaft to be able to physically remove the alternator. you can try to remove it from up top maybe move it round the back to the intake side. lol

i have a new one for replacemant but just want to know how i should do this and if its possible to get at it from the top because the car is pretty slammed...

You're able to remove those two bolts easily of course, as well as output stud. However, as mentioned, physically removing it is a paiiiiiiin.
If you have power steering, the lines are in the way but can be worked around to raise it up through the side/rear of the intake manifold. It has to be angled just right, and by the time you're done you'll be so frustrated you'll throw the alternator against the ground. :-)
Best of luck.

Re: (Davus)
You can actually unbolt all of the alternator from the top and once everything is loose just jack the front left of the car up and that gives you a gap under the car between the axel and the floor. its a squeze and you actually kind of pull it through just a little bit but thats how i got mine out.

You're right, minus the halfshaft part. EJ- anything is a D-series, so no halfshaft. Depending on the intake manifold and hoses in the way, it may be easier to finagle it out from below. It'll come out, but patience is key.
