changed distributor now car wont fire up!!
ok long story short my b20vtec build had a single cam distributor on it and always had an extremely low idle so i bout a t44 vtec distributor to fit the build perfect, i went to switch the dizzys and the car wouldnt fire up(cranks but doesnt start up) then i put the old one back on to see what the deal was and even with the old distributor it wouldnt fire up, this car is my daily driver and i need her back on the road asap any suggestions on what the problem could be or how to make 100% the timing is on???

Pics of your order? Its very rare that just changing out the dist. will cause this much problems. You didnt 180 the fins right? Getting any burps or anything like that?

i think the 180ing the fins could work because the single cam distributer was put on different because it wouldnt directly fit on the motor and was pretty close to the opposite way as the normal one but before i go and 180 the rotor cap its not going to mess up the motor or anything if its the wrong way will it???

Re: changed distributor now car wont fire up!! (heeltoeNdro)
i had to go out of town the last 2 days so i never got around to 180ing the rotor on the distributor until a little while ago and when I tried it didnt seem like it fit in completely flush compared to how it was before would that automatically mean that the rotor cap being on 180 degrees wrong isnt the problem and if any one has any other input on what the problem could be please let me know

hey homie, you're probably puttin the dizzy in 180out man. take it out, spin it around and put it in the other way. i did the same thing with my celica and my friend did it on his 72 skylark. it will crank all day, but it just won't start.

ya man thats what i thought too but once i spin it aroud to put it in the other way it will fit into the groves but wont go in all the way flush like when i have it in the other way and has almost a diagnol slant even if i push really hard to get to fit flush

it's not supposed to. honda distributors only fit one way. you cannot flip it 180 degrees. it's not going to fit.

yeah so then 180ing the fins cant be the problem and the firing order is right on.

thats the way im putting the wires on the dizzy which is what ive been told is correct and of course the dizzy has a rotor its has everthing in it and is brand new from factory, if im doing this correct then what possibly else could be making the car not fire up?? its so confusing because the car worked fine besides the rediculously low idle before swapping the the dizzys

did you mess with anything else at all when you replaced the dizzy? any belts, anything you are sure you put back on right even?

nope just messed with strictly the dizzy and unplugged the vtec solenoid to get a better view but i looked over everything and its all as it should be

who says you cant put it on 180 out? anyways take off the cap. put the motor to TDC #1 piston so the cam gear markings that say "up" are both pointing UP! then aim the rotor where the #1 spot would be on the cap. then you know for sure that the distributor is on correctly.
other than that just make sure the distributor plug is in good.
