Default Change your VTEC Engagement??

What would be the purpose of chiping a p28 for a GSR, to make VTEC kick in at 6000, instead of 4500 first stage, and 5500 for the second, (i belive that is stock)? I only think i can think of is if you rev it to over redline and then shift you will stay in the higher VTEC powerband? I duno, sounds dumb to me, cause if you raised it, it would take longer to kick in, and the faster it kicks in, doesnt it give you that extra umph? I know it dosent work as well at lower RPM's, but it honda designed it to come on at 4500, and 5500, wouldnt that be the optimal point? Why would they make it less effective?

usually you set it back a little so it will kick in sooner. Depending on the setup and if you can rev higher than 8000 people set the vtec higher.

Whats your setup? dont mess with it if your stock.

well the car im buying is a p28 chip, no rev limiter with vtec at 6000, he has the stock p72 he says and will give me that instead of it...should i do that, i asked him whats difference and he said that everyone had it so he got it, dosent know why the vtec kicks in later...i think it would make the car slower, right? Espically if the engine still redlines at 8000, should i take the stock ecu? i just dont want to loose any functionality, but i would think that they would be the same right? Thats why you chip the p28, so it will work with the stock GSR harness, right?

ok thats alot of questions.

If your gonna redline at 8000 with the p28, 6000 is too high in my opinion.
Either way I would still keep the vtec at the stock kick in point.
